The 1973 Challenger Byrdtown Academy Hartsville S.C. Volume III Editor—Dale Byrd Co-Editor-Freda Byrd Business Manager—Lynn Johnson Faculty Advisor-Mr. Fletcher Biggs Cover Art—Mrs. Robert Edwards In any endeavor the one most sought after quality is improvement. V hen we think of our school, we can easily see that improvements have taken place here. Like the popular song we are getting bigger, better and stronger. When we first opened our doors three short year ago we set a pattern for development that has resulted in steady and constant improvement. Increasing enrollment has made us bigger, new faculty and students have made us better, and improved organization combined with strong support by our parents have made us stronger. Although the primary purpose of an annual is to record events at school for posterity, we of the annual staff have attempted to capture and display herein that small spark, that fleeting difference that accounts for a success- ful school rather than a mediocre or even poor one. We sincerely hope that one area of improvement will be in your annual itself. 3 Dedication For his dedication and sincere efforts in the betterment of our academy we, the 1973 Challenger staff, would like to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Carroll Chapman. Because of his unselfish character, Mr. Chapman donated over six acres of land on which Byrdtown Academy is now established. Cheraw, S.c. Graduation from high school is a special time in each person's life when he leaves the protective hands of teachers and parents and ven- tures into the world where he will have to stand on his own two feet and not depend on anyone else. Graduation is a time that each person looks forward to but when it approaches he really wishes it were not a reality. Realizing that high school is completely over comes as a shock. Dur- ing your school years graduation seems to be almost an impossible culmination. May 25,1973 brings happy tears, smiling faces, lingering memories, and unforgettable happiness. The halls of Byrdtown Academy will never be the same. There will be no more doughnuts to sell, no more cakes to bake and sell, no more basketball games, soccer games, or track meets. These are things that can never be forgotten and will for- ever be held in deep esteem. 78 Happiness is . being A Senior! 79 80 f t
