geicficslrzarz gtuafuczfsi of HQ46 Forty-two members of the class of I946 are servicemen. They earned their diplomas un- der circumstances much different from those in a regular classroom. Service diplomas are of three types. The first, which has the value of a regular school diploma, was earned by boys who took courses under supervision of the U. S. Armed Forces Institute while they were serving their country aboard ship, in foxholes, and in other war situations. The second, which also will be accepted by colleges, includes diplomas earned while the students were in attend- ance in service schools learning trade subjects. The credit for these was evaluated in terms of regular high school courses on the recommendation of the American Council on Education. The third category is a special diploma, not recognized for college entrance, which des- ignates that the holder has passed a general educational development test, it indicates his general knowledge is that of a high school graduate.
