COLOR GU RD That a representative government shall not die within the hallowed walls of Butler High: that is the aim of the student council, whose president, Leo Franks, senior class luminary, assumed the important responsibility of guiding the governing body through the year. The organization is composed of class officers and a representative from each class. Responsibility is the burden of each member--how to prevent prob- lems from arising, how to treat them after they have occurred. The boys didnlt win any championship but they had a team that put to the test the most superior playing of all their opponents. The team proved time after time that they were never defeated until the final whistle. The squad showed a rare combination of the will to win and that old determination that Butler High teams have exhibited from time to time. Much credit can be given to Coach Yfolfgang for his excellent supervision and organization of the team. In addition to a tull and powerful outfield and two ot the four infielders, the Wolverines have three of the top batters from last season, namely, hill Barlow, Lowell Newton, and Charley Pahira. Other hold-overs are: Skip Quirk, Francis Gallagher, Harry Fleetman, and joe Beichwein. The newcomers have shown excellent ability as first string material. Any student who has displayed sufficient talent to become a member of the orchestra receives valuable training and experience under the guidance of Miss Hehn. The orchestra played a prominent part in the activities of the school year. It furnished musical entertainment for assembly programs, school dances. the Christmas program, and graduation activities . Then you may rehearse with the girls' group or be admitted to the boys' glee club. You have fun singing with either group--for pleasure and relaxation, and serving the school and music department with your song. In the line of service. the groups participated in the Christmas program and Com- mencement activities.
