The members carry much responsi- bility upon their shoulders, for the duties of the Council are numerous. Pep assemblies, lost and found department, and a check room is under the direction of council members. The Council has been an indispensable part of exjtra-curricular activities in Butler High for four years. ffm 3 BTI-IS F STRENIGTH or Tomonnow 0, G0lDIE . YU TH, n lCKl.Y UVED, W I . After looking back upon the record ol' these seniors. we realize that theirs is truly a record of which they may. be proud. Many stu- dents have won honors in athletics, debate, dramatics or speech work. Still others have become outstanding in music, whether it be in the band. orchestra, or in vocal groups. Several members of this class were outstanding not only in the extra-curricular activities. but also in their regular school work. They have won just as much distinction in scholastic achievements as in any other field. 'We marvelled at the progress which the seniors have made since they started into grade school many years ago. Now that their high school days are over, we know that they will find it hard to leave the school where they have spent so many happy hours and have formed so many lasting friendships. The seniors have been fortunate in having as their leaders otli- cers who have led them brilliantly and capably throughout the past three years. Each one has been competent and etlicient and has repre- sented his class exceedingly well. S1 J amimfs First Huw: A. Sell, B. xViHiilIllS 'wmcl Huw: S. llc'Pl4'l', N. l,.o1'1'z1im-, F. The cheerleaders of 1945-1946,'deserve the praise and admiration of the entire student body, They introduced several fine new cheers, and, in their bright uniforms, they livened up time-outs both in basketball games, and baseball games. Their expert cheering is the result of long hours of practice. Their routine may look simple to the spectator, but only the girls know how many long hours of practice are needed to gain such snap and precision. Jackie Krapf, their able leader, is greatly responsible for the pep and rhythm of the girls. ff int. Dolan, clllllgllllll, C. The boys didn't win any championship but they had a team that put to the test the kmost super- ior playing of all their opponents. The Wolverines really showed the fans some high class basketball during the season. The boys prov- ed time after time that they were never defeated until the final whis- tle. This year's squad produced a rare combination of the will to win and that old determination that Butler High teams have exhibited from time to time. Much credit can be given to Coach Wolfgang and Coach Carey for the magnificent way they in- spired the -boys by their locker room talks and skillful coaching af the team. Mr. Carey's interesting program this year, as usual, attracted a large number of boys to the gym club. Home Economics Club Smart young homemakers! They plan well balanced, economical meals and keep a tidy, attractive home as well as design, make and model their own clothes. All this can be accomplished by students at Butler High through training in the Home Economics Department. There the girls spend one term studying foods, planning and preparing meals. Another semester is devoted to the study of proper styles, pattern cutting, and the making of all the articles of milady's wardrobe. Press Club TOVVNSHIP TOPICS-Butler High's newspaper is published by the Press Club under the supervision of Mrs. George Kimmel. Through this organization we learn of school events, forthcoming assemblies, school gossip, and other affairs. With the capable staff doing its best at all times to make each issue better than the' last, we may always be assured of a good paper. Shop Club One of the most flourishing clubs in Butler High is the Shop Club, under the supervision of Mr. Charles Helwig. It is perhaps one of the most practical and educational clubs in oiur school. The boys have completed projects in wood andfmetal work and have acquired useful knowledge ton adapt to later life. . It is our earnest wish that the 1946 AMERICANA will faithfully pre- serve for you memories of hours spent in work and play within the halls of Butler High. There are numerous duties to be performed by each staff before the book is completed. The art editor must draw the dummy, which serves as a guide to the staff and printerg editorials must be written, typed, and proof read, pictures must be taken and individuals identified, space for advertisements, which help finance the book, must be soldg and lastly, the circulation manager must see that the books are sold and distributed. This organization has gained wide reputation for excellence in harmony and pitch. Auditorium programs, school plays, and graduation activi- ties were made more enjoyable by the fine music of the orchestra.. Under Miss. Hehn's capable direction, the orchestra deserves the praise of the school for its iine work, and enthusiastic spirit. Rhythmeers The Rhythmeers, directed by Miss Hehn, is a prominent organi- zation at Butler High. This group has appeared several times before the assembly, and has played for all school dances. Vocalists Jofe Reichwein, Lowell Newton, Shirley Newton, Mary Eiler, and Violet Abromitis added much to the brilliancy oif the programs. Senior Chorus This group, numbering sophomores, juniors, and seniors, meets several times a week under the direction of Miss Hehn. Theft chorus sings all types of music, light, gay, serious, and classicial. They ap- peared in a special program at Christmas time, at various assemblies, and presented several numbers during graduation week. Mixed Chorus The mixed chorus is composed ozf approximately fifty students. Miss Hehn, with these enthusiastic members, has made this or- ganization a very successful one, and a very popular one, too. The members took part in assembly programs, the Christmas program, and had their own spring concert. K. Kennedy, A. Prock. Third Row: N. Maurer, L. Beheney, D. Waltersheid, N. Cappel, R. Buhl, S.
