This p h r a s e amply describes Butler High's 1944-- 45 basketball team. with Lee Cap-A pel and Jim Quirk forming the bul- wark of the team. Around these two veterans Coach Carey built a tenta- tive varsity w h ic h varied slightly throughout the season. The Wolver- E ines showed smooth teamwork and improved form as the season pro- gressed. With the last game of the sea- son, Lee Cappel, Jim Quirk, Bob Devitz, Marsh Feglejf, and Milt Strohecker will bid goodbye to high school sports. However, with John Dolan, J o h n n y Hawranick, anal Charley Fisher still in the line-up, and with the oncoming material to be developed, the prospect for the next court campaign seems fairly promising. Now that the 1945 Ameri- cana is finished, we can truthfully say that every minute spent on the book has been time well spent and we feel that the work and effort of our staff has been profitably used. We ourselves are extremely proud of it, but you are the real judges. Our true success can be determin- ed by you as you linger over the pages, reliving your school year. URCIIESTRA RHYTHMEER S We hear the stirring music echoing and re-echoing throughout the building, we pause to enjoy for a few moments the beautiful har- mony. It is the High School Orches- tra at its weekly rehearsal. To what great proportions this group has grown has been evidenc- ed by its many public performances. Through Miss Hehn's consistent ef- fort in developing the talent which presented itself, the Orchestra in- creased in size and ability, and was a worthy acquisition to the High School. HE Butler High Swing Band was organized during the early summer of 1944. The members of this outstanding group have shown exceptional musical ability and are steadily gaining wide popularity. both in and out of school. The talented members ot' the organization are lo be commendefl for their willingness to participate in all school affairs. No praise is too great for the student director. In blue denim shirts and rolled up jeans many young women worked on farms throughout the nation. The group pictured on this page were members of the Woman's Land Army of the U. S. Crop Corps during the summer of 1944. The girls lived at Westfield, Connecti- cut, in the heart of the tobacco growing section, and worked under the supervision of the Women's Land Army and the University of Connecticut. The members of the camp were recruited by the local Farm Labor Office from various high schools throughout Schuylkill County. C. Heuer II. Ufelker I. XVelker Heuer T. Klusman The girls enjoyed various kinds of recreation, including s e V e ral conducted tours to spots of histori- cal interest in the Hartford area. Despite their inexperience, the girls made an excellent record and had the distinction of holding the highest production record of any similar camp in Connecticut. Svrmifl Hou: ll. ll'Ic'lcvl'. X Il URING the h i g h school years through which each student passes, there are many setbacks and many disappoint- ments. and yet, when the student strolls down the aisle as a graduating senior and pauses to reflect upon thi- past four years, he realizes that it was well worth the struggle. 'We, the class of 1945, will ever all ter remember our high school years a-1 perhaps the happiest, least complicated and freest days of our lives. As we leave our dear old Alma Mater. the mem- ory of our high school years will remain with us - for we timidly entered the big halls of B.T.H.S. and as conquering sf-niors we proudly strut forth. lVe've en- deavored to gain many good traits dur- ing this period and it was toward this goal we have striven. All through our school days we have tried to play and work with unceasing vigor to build our bodies and minds for the things expected from us after grad- uation. li iznns, tSCCl'L'flll'lfj H. McDonald, prcsidcntg li. Paul, treasurerg M. Strohecker, lsice-presulent From our ranks have come some of this year's heroes of basketball and base- ball, the dramatic stars, and the out- standing musicians all imbued with a de- sire to make our school the best in good sportsmanship. We believe that among the members of our class there are many of these good sportsmen. whether they have been prominent in activities or not. They are those whose spirit of sacrifice. service. and co-operation has endured all the cycle of school years-they've all cheered and rooted for our school and. class enthusiasticallyg but they've also taken defeat smilingly. We leave our place as seniors to the junior class hoping that they will have as many memories of a wonderful high school life of study and play as will re- turn to us in coming years. Through the knowledge gained in our application of study we feel that the largest class eve to be graduated from B.T.H.S. is now ready to depart for the outside world with our class motto before us- Today we followg Tomorrow we lead.
