SCIENCE With the help of an enlarged model, Mr. Sadler explains the internal structure of the earthworm. We are now in an age of science. Everywhere you look, you can see progress being made in the field of science. Science is a fascinating subject because it holds something new and challenging to every person. A large scale science program is made available to every student in Butler High School. Biology is given to the freshman, Chemistry to the juniors, and physics is offered to the seniors. Butler is well equipped with new science equipment this year to enable the students to better understand the study of science. Mr. Walter and his class are deep in thought over a Physics question. Mr. Amstutz shows the class the brain of the life sized model of the human body. Chemistry experiments are always interesting. Courtesy of BUTLER BOWL

SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. Gibson shows Lloyd Webb and Anita Robbins the correct way to use a map. An attentive class listens to Mr. Johnston's talk in Sociology. Social studies are considered a major part of any high school student's training. The knowledge acquired through such courses, as: Civics, American history, and Government can serve as a foundation in anyone's life, no matter what follows graduation. In the courses covered by social studies, the students at B.H.S. are taught of other countries and areas outside of Butler, Indiana. This in itself, widens each stu- dents scope of life in our world and pre- pares them to face many of the problems that will confront them in the future. Mrs. Schubert explains to Gary Laub the procedure of getting a bill through congress. Mr. Johnston finds the maps helpful in discussing World History. Courtesy of MAST MARATHON SERVICE

Sheldon Shafer completes his problem as Mr. Akey and Mike Hamm an look on. Courtesy of MAXTON MOTORS David Fisher and Charlotte Dohner agree that Geometry is a difficult course. The study of mathematics is one that is being undertaken not only by the boys of our school, but more and more girls are becoming interested in the study and usage of numbers, formulas, and equations. Here at Butler, a complete and varied program of mathematics is offered. When a student enters B. H. S., they are given a choice of courses. General math and algebra are given to the fresh- men, plane geometry is offered to the sophomores, and advanced algebra to the juniors. If a stu- dent wants four years of math, as a senior, he is offered the advanced math course. The math courses are all challenging and require much concentration and work, but the knowledge gained is worth all the effort. Mr. Walter explains to Ron Houser why his problem is wrong. Mr. Amstutz is explaining a new way of solving their General Business problems.
