FOREWORD Great institutions result not from fortuitous circumstances, but from visions and sustained hard work on the part of a competent staff and a concerned student body. So it is with Butler. Through the years we have watched the rapid growth of our school which now stands among the best with its numerous offerings in learning activities, pleasures, and leisures. Students’ needs are of paramount importance around Butler. For this reason there is continuous progress in all areas of the school’s program. We, the Tiger Staff, have assumed with pleasure this great task to produce an Annual that will represent our school environment - the faces, the many activities, the achievements and successes that were a part of our school life this year. It is our sincere hope that in years to come when Butler seems far removed from your post in life, while thumbing through these pages you will recapture something of the past that you would give anything to relive the years spent at ”ole Butler” — some dear friends or classmates long forgotten, a familiar campus scene, the carefree days spent strolling down the ramp, the thrilling competitive activities, the warm family-like atmosphere, and most of all, the broad curriculum that gave you your start in life. If this be it, then we believe that we have accomplished our task in presenting the 1971 Tiger. 2

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Dear Reader, Butler High can be very proud of her many years as an established institution of learning. Through her doors have passed some of the most brilliant minds and personalities of our times. While acknowledging the accomplishments of past graduates, it is the intentions of this yearbook to reveal nobility in the making; the valiant generation of tomorrow. We the Annual Staff take great pleasure in presenting to you scenes of all phases of high school life behind the walls of Butler High. And, as editor, I would like to express my appreciation to the members of the Annual Staff and to all concerned for a job well done.
