Principal Mr. Smith In a world of great strife and unrest throughout our nation there is a dire need for individuals with leadership ability, desirable character and attitude, and a sound philosophy of life. The world which once seemed to have been a land of dreams now appears to be one of confusion and misunderstanding. There- fore, the challenges of life have become greater for all of us and we must work with strong determination to help develop a climate that will lend itself toward promoting greater love, peace and brotherhood among all mankind. We must also welcome every educational opportunity that will enable us to face life’s obstacles with indomitable confidence and cour- age. We sincerely congratulate the members of the out- going senior class on having reached this milestone in life. As you venture into your new world, we hope that the skills that have been developed here at Butler will serve as an incessant inspiration to you through life. The past is but the beginning of a beginning and all that is and has been is but a twilight of dawn. Before you lies a new life with many fields untrod as well as those pursued by others. May you go forth and prove your worth as a useful citizen in helping to make the world a better place. Though the path may be dark, there’s always a star to guide you. Trust in God and do your best. To the makers of this edition of the 1971 “Tiger”, we realize that the enormous task which you assumed was not taken as a light one, but one which required the role of a major responsibility. We commend you for this splendid production. a a Mr. Smith confers with two students - a great part of his daily routine.

Assistant Principals 'v. The values of an education are not only to be found in the study of school subjects, but also are obtained from participation in the allied activities. A good record in high school is not determined by the marks you have earned, but also by the character and personality you have developed. Students who have acquired good personalities, leadership, cooperative- ness, friendliness, and good mental health, along with the virtues of working hard and rigorously have laid a foundation for successful living in the future. It is with pleasure that I congratulate you, the senior class that will soon depart, for having reached this exciting point in your life. As you assume your role in the world of man, may the quality of your performance be of such that will have lasting values and will prove helpful in developing a more peaceful and happy world. Do all you can, at all times, in all ways, all places and for all people as long as you can. We highly commend the Annual Staff and all con- cerned for their time and effort spent in producing this most excellent edition of the 1971 “Tiger”. 1 wish to congratulate the seniors upon reaching a milestone in their lives. I also wish to praise the yearbook staff for this fine evidence of hard work. A new day is dawning for you, the students. Never before have your opportunities been greater. This trend will continue. The question now is not avail- ability of opportunity, but availability of prepared individuals. Each student should ask himself the ques- tion, “Will I be prepared for opportunities in the future?” If the student is totally dedicated to learn- ing, his answer will be yes. If he is not totally dedi- cated, his answer will be no. Those who have pre- pared themselves will most probably be successful in life, those who have not prepared have reduced their chances of success greatly. What will your answer be? 9
