— Brandolyn Thomas—Editor Lindell Bradley—Co-editoi Lunnette Haynesworth—Business Manager Jamesine Thompson—Secretary Presenting The Nineteen Sixty-Six Tiger Tales Volume XIV Published By Tiger Staff Butler High School Hartsville, S. C. FOREWORD A The Annual Staff of 1966 leaves you with a revised name of this fourteenth edition of The Tiger. In keeping with our theme Pushing Forward With The Times, it was decided that we call this memorandum, Tiger Tales. The Tales we present to you are priceless to us because they review our activities during our years at our B.H.S.-- the joy and sorrow we have experienced will spread favorable impressions of us . . . May it inspire you as well has it has us--to reach your goal. DEDICATION Miss Ethel Rhinehart Miss Ethel Rhinehart is the first in South Carolina to become a homebound graduate. She was presented with a high school diploma during the graduation exercises of 1965, in which all of her studies, for four years, were completed. With this achievement, she is honored with favorable comments from the area school superintendent and the State Board of Education. Miss Rhinehart was also highly commended by Mr. John P. Gardner of the House of Representatives. Receiving such an honor makes us proud to dedicate the 1966 annual to Ethel Rhinehart. We congratulate her on this great accomplishment. ADMINISTRATION Mr. P. P. Smith, Principal WORDS TO LIVE BY To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive. —Virginibus Puerisque El Dorado To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life. —Familiar Studies of Men and Books You cannot run away from a weakness; you must sometime fight it out or perish; and if that be so, why not now, and where you stand? —The Amateur Emigrant Discontent is the first step in the progress of a man or a nation.” —A Woman of No Importance, Act II Selected by the Principal _ Mr. A. If we fail to do so all hope may be lost. Let us dedicate ourselves to being well rounded citizens of our com- munity and nation. Everyone of us should strive to contribute in some way to the most holy cause of restoring and main- taining the peace. I especially urge that we always remember our parents and instructors with whose help we have reached the thres- hold of our future. We hope that you have enjoyed looking at the many pictures, as much as we enjoyed putting the layout together. First to the Annual Staff Committee, Mrs. Hodge, Mr. Pearson, Mrs. Burno, and Mr. Hines, we thank you for your cooperation and interest. We hope that you continue to do this for the classes to come. And now to our advisors; Mrs. Bacote, Mrs. Burno, Miss Abrams, Mr. Thomas, and Mrs. Bradford, our hats go off to you for your helpful counseling and warm spirit shown toward the class of 1966. Many thanks to our principal who took time to listen to our problems and advised us as he saw fit. And, last, but not least, thanks to our parents, for without them none of this would have been possible. The annual staff joins with me in saluting each person who co- operated in making this book a success.
