Carolyn Kennedy................editor-in-chief Mozella Nicholson...............assist, editor Wilson Jackson...............business manager 3 Dedication Mr. T. B. Thomas We proudly dedicate this thirteenth issue of the Tiger to a gentleman who has faithfully served our school and community for thirteen rewarding years. He has won the love and admiration of every student through exercising extreme patience and an understanding attitude in dealing with our problems. To us he is a good friend and a wonderful leader. Mr. T. B. Thomas, better known as coach , fills the positions of classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and coach of the championship Butler High School Tigers. Under his leadership the Tigers have won many trophies for top performances. We hope there will be many more. This special dedication is made to Coach only as an indication of our deep devotion because words cannot fully extend our innermost feelings. Sincerely, The Tiger Staff The Principal’s Message Each year at this time, we pause to take a look at our experiences, past and present. The past is significant only as it relates to the present. What progress have we made toward accomplishing the goals we have set for ourselves? Have our accomplishments been realized to a point above and beyond this same period a year ago? The present is important because it paves the way for future achievements. As students looking ahead to the future, it is mandatory that we take advantage of every possible opportunity in order to prepare ourselves for a useful, successful life. We express our thanks to the Annual Staff and other cooperating units for the preparation of this edition of the Butler High School Tiger. Sincerely yours, 5 Our Secretary Miss P. B. Reddick Miss Reddick is a great asset to our school. If she has problems we never know because she maintains her kind, helpful manner at all times. We appreciate the efficiency with which she handles her duties, and the pleasant smiles that she shares with everyone. 6 Nurse Administration and Helpers Cafeteria Staff c°me And Get It Secretary and Helpers Future Secretaries Faculty Miss Carolyn Abrams Business Education Miss Susanna D. The motivation and spirit at dear old Butler will be a lasting memory and will aid many of us in pursuing a higher education. As we explore life's many avenues, let us go forth with the conviction that no conflicts can alter our directions. In this space age, of which time is the most important factor, we must be alert and take advantage of the many opportunities that are offered. For many this has been the end; but for you, I sincerely hope it is the begin- ning of a prosperous voyage into the future. There are unlimited opportunities if only you will accept them. Remember you are the one who must decide whether you will accept them or toss them aside. Your decisions will depend on your success, so choose wisely. At the time, we had 201 passengers headed for the graduation list. We quickly made up our minds to try to keep all of the passengers aboard until we reached our destination in the spring of 1965. Although we were the youngest passengers, we felt we had as great responsibilities as the others aboard. First of all, we had to get organized. Our officers were as follows: President............................................Carolyn Kennedy Vice President.......................................Carolyn Copeland Secretary............................................Haystine Nicholson Treasurer..................................................Floyd Taylor As the ship sailed swiftly onward, we adjusted ourselves to the most important thing during this journey, studying. In 1962 we all rushed to mount the ship again, but this time as Sophomores. Realizing our responsibilities, to ourselves and to our school, we immediately put on our thinking caps and started to work. Our work was not in vain because many of us made the honor roll-the reward for hard work. But without the continuous help of our beloved advisors most of us would never have made it. As the summer tides of 1963 ceased, we found ourselves climbing to a higher level-Juniors. With the awareness that our destination was very near, we continued to struggle harder to make our trip a success. Our officers were: President . . . . Vice President . Secretary . . . . Assist. Secretary Treasurer . . . . Chaplain........ . Foster Jackson 7 . Jerone Ridges Mozella Nicholson Carolyn Kennedy . . Floyd Taylor . Levonne Young 30 With the help of our advisors we sponsored a fabulous Junior-Senior Prom, entitled Southern Serenade. The 1964 fall breeze welcomed us aboard for the last time; therefore we endeavored to make our final trip a success. With the aid of our advisors, Mrs. M. H. Bacote, Mrs. M. Burno, Mrs. L. H. Bradford, Miss C. Abrams and Mr. T. B. Thomas, we successfully organized our class. The class officers were: President .... Vice President . Secretary .... Assist. Secretary Treasurer .... Chaplain........ Business Manager . . . Willie Briggs . i Jerome Ridges . Carolyn Kennedy Dorothy Campbell Willie P. Williams . . . Calvin Larts . . . . John Samuel Honor was brought to our class when Wincy McClendon was elected Miss Home- coming . At the same time Carolyn Copeland was selected Miss Butler , Carolyn Kennedy was honored Miss Student Council , Barbara Wheeler was honored Miss Block B and Myrtle Mack was crowned Miss N.H.A. As the ship anchored at the shore of Graduation, we gave thanks to those that protected us against all of our obstacles. We especially gave thanks to our parents, advisors, faculty, principal and God. Without their help and careful guidance our trip would not have been a success. Historian ....
