Same way of teaching It’s finally time! Now we even have a choice. New desks too? One advantage of our new school is our principal’s office and conference room and we all agree no one deserves it more than Dr. Crim. Looking 10 All play and no work I don’t believe it! Around One and Two and Three! Teacher’s workroom?! Faces to the front! Settling Down Butler High School! Do your own Adrian! This is the way it’s done! Rah! Rah! Reee! You told us that yesterday, Mrs. Harvey! 12 Alright Haskell, Count them! We dedicate this page especially to this year’s football team who made a great show of their Rebel Spirit. Congratulations REBELS for a job well done! 13 Dedication As is the tradition of long standing from old to new, we are proud to ded- icate this REBEL to a great Senior Spon- sor. She has given much of her time and many ideas to the organizing of Senior projects and activities in the past, moved with us, and begun anew with much en- thusiasm, vigor, and Rebel Spirit. The 1968 REBEL Staff is proud to de- dicate this year’s book to you: MISS FRANCIS HARRIS 15 Editor’s Letter Dear Friends, This year our staff chose to have as our theme our new S. R. Butler High. Since this is our first year in the new school we based the whole book around it. The school has been a great pleasure to all of us this year and we are very proud of it. We tried to fill the 1968 REBEL with fond memories of this year which meant and always will mean very much to each of us. Our new school has given us many advantages that will mean very much to us all through our lives. Each and every one of us calls it ours and in this REBEL we tried to portray just this. In this way we want to show our ap- preciation to every person who made it possible for us to have the best high school in the city. We want to especially honor the Seniors this year as being the “first” graduating class from the new school and we hope this book will always remind you of one of the most important years of your life. To the Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen we hope this book will hold a fond record of your high school years and the pride you share of being a The REBEL staff would like to thank our friends, students, faculty, and especially our English advisor, Mrs. Louise Harvey, our commercial help; Miss Mildred Canterbury and our all around help Mrs. Catherine Roper for all the help each of you have given us. Most of all we want to thank our faithful and the greatest advisor ever, Mrs. Jean Day. It couldn’t have been possible without you! So, this is it; the 1968 REBEL. We hope it brings back all the memories to each of you of being a REBEL. REBEL. Sincerely, Del Myra Manning Editor-in-chief 16 Principal DR. J. HOMER CRIM B.A. Birmingham Southern College M.A. George Peabody College Columbia University L.H.D. Athens College CITY OF HUNTSVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION We feel that our Board has been outstanding in the work that they have accomplished. They give freely of their time (they are not paid), they have kept the schools going under an almost impossible load of children. The Board has not been preoccupied solely with the number of children in the city system but has given of its time to insure that quality education will be of paramount importance. The teachers have received regular increases; the children are given the best teachers they can hire. We feel that the teaching force combines the services of teachers from all over the United States and some foreign countries. This in- sures a high quality of education for the children. We feel that our community is unusual in that it com- bines people concerned with our space program—and naturally well-educated—with the old residents that have lived here for many years. We feel that our Board of Education has led this group in making ed- ucation in the city of Huntsville a vital and dynamic part of our community. DR. LOUIS BROWN MARVIN DRAKE J. OLIVER JOHNSON DR.
