Clips in the hoir were o common sight this year, along with the short, punk hairstyles . . . ond yes . . . it's not your imagination . . . dyed toils were in. Looking bock, we wonder how we could hove lived through our freshmon yeor. Our first view of B.H.S. come neor the end of the summer of 1962. At orientation, we gozed or the large buildings ond wondered how we could possibly find our woy around. Then, on the first doy, clutching brand new schedules ond old notions, passed on by older brothers ond sisters, we tried to understand how the main building could be the old building . . . when the annex wos obviously older, ond how the new building could be new. when it wos built before we were born. And why is 334 nowhere neor 314, ond if 103 is next to 100, wherever did they hide 102? Freshmon yeor is o mixed set of memories, including envy of the various senior privileges, our championship seasons in football, bowl- ing, ond frock, ond o first-ever F in Mr. Hoeflinger's social studies class. Shoring these activities, we soon began to break down the barriers that separated the Butler ond Bloomingdole students, ond starred to develop the friendships that will lost the rest of our lives. β€” Luonne Osrerhoudr 1 Alice Bleignier. 2. A word thor meant so much. But did it? When we were underclassmen, it seemed so. Bur when we reached our senior year we leorned that being the top didn't olwoys land us on top. We still hod the old privileges, bur only some of them. Perhops the one thing we leorned this year was that, in life, there is o constant give and toke Whenever there is anything given, there is usually something token owoy. Senior year was no exception. With the start of September come the first distribution of Blue and Gold posses. The seniors began to congregate in the Senior Lounge with its plush blue carpeting and new furniture. However, within weeks, separate groups of seniors began appearing all over the school in the bond room, cafeteria, gym, librory, ond. of course, the courtyard. While some lounged, others begon diligently returning to the guidonce of- fice, doy after doy, to use the computer or to plod through piles of college catalogues. Many were colled to the of- fice to tolk with college recruiters, while others received their information in the moil. To some this wos one of the less desirable aspects of being o senior. Bur, to most, the thought of being in college wos enough incentive to get through this difficult time. As in previous yeors, eighteen year- old seniors were granted the opportuni- ty to receive adult student status. Bur other traditional senior options disap- peared. Ever since freshman year, future seniors dreamed of o six period doy. However, this wos one of those odvanroges which wos β€œtaken from the closs of '86. With a great deal of reluctance seniors filled their schedules up through eighth period, some with classes and others with the prevalent study halls. If you were one of those seniors assigned to on eighth period study, the mere thought of leaving school early come with the risk of losing your blue ond gold pass. For most, it wosn't worth it. Whether we were sitting in closs eighth period or lounging in the court- yard ot noon, the sparkle of being o senior wos still present. β€” Chris Kerwin 1. Ken Vonder Hove 2. Lori Moody.
