Note the ambiance “Good Morning! This is the Butler High School morning show. Please stand for the national anthem and the pledge to the flag.” Another morning begins in the locker-lined corridors. BHS opens its eyes to the familiar friendly faces of students and faculty. Screams of greeting to a friend and the romantic interlude of the class couple in their usual spot set the stage for the start of a new day. Yes, the late bell has definitely rung, its echoes paralleled by sulking sighs of those poor souls who were “snag- ged and forced to deal with the em- barrassment of the famous late pass. After the shuffle of the class change, the hallways are hollow and the business of the school day begins. As notes engulf the blackboard your mind starts to wander out the window into the courtyard, complete with park-like benches and trees. BHS groups seem to have assigned spots in the courtyard. The football team claims the fence along the covered walkway; the outside benches belong to the gossiping girls or an occasional studying group. The cheerleaders discuss a new dance to wow the home stands. The outside fence is lovers’ lane. “Do I have to repeat my question? Whoops! Back to business. This period flew, thanks to the daydreams. There’s only 30 seconds left. “Homework, page 224, 1 to 5, don’t forget. Myriads of scuffling feet charge to lockers and then on to the next class. The most notable day Graduation is a time of mixed emo- tions. The excitement of moving on carries us through the sentimentality of the day. Last June, the Junior usheret- tes donned their most elegant attire, knowing that the next such occasion would find them draped in gowns and caps. What seemed an eternal wait as freshmen was nearly over. Our most notable year at Butler High School was about to begin. i 16
