Assignment: become a senior After three years of envy, the time had finally come. It was a long strug- gle, from the dreaded singing of the alma mater as freshmen at the first pep rally through the anxious morning of SAT’s as juniors. It was senior year and the wait was worth it. Being a senior at BHS means upholding certain traditions. The most noted one is the privilege of using the Senior Lounge. Entering this tiny sanc- tum, you first note the antiques and classic art pieces. That psychedelic stereo and the “Ghostbuster” poster will surely be collectibles in a few years. But wait, before you go in, make sure you have the necessary creden- tial, the Blue and Gold Pass. This sought-after item allows certain seniors to escape the drudgery of study halls and lunch periods and catch their favorite “soaps” or game shows in the Lounge. The conversa- tions here range from who abducted the stuffed raccoon to Mr. Malzone’s psych class. If claustrophobia becomes a prob- lem, the place to go is the pride and joy of Butler High School, the court- yard. There’s nothing like catching some rays on a sunny spring day and making plans for the weekend. Although senior year sounds like all fun, it still has pressures. It’s time to plan for the future, to sort out that mountain of college brochures you stashed under the bed or to make some serious career decisions. Ap- plications are as difficult as a Hoeflinger history test. There are deadlines to be met and more tests to be taken, but senior year has still lived up to all our expectations. 7
