Certainly anyone viewing the precision of their performances would be compelled to cheer The Bandfront bus shreiked with Beatle's songs, stuffed animals, plastic frogs, and falling equipment, overpowered only by the stench of hair spray The self-discipline and poise developed by each individual was worth all the pain, sweat, and frustration suffered during the season FLAGS: C. REAPS KING QUEEN AT THE HARVEST BALL Everyone waited breathlessly for the stroke of ten when Queen Marlene Ziegler, King Tom Usino- wicz and their royal court officials hosted a lively evening of semi- formal dance Attendants included Margie Smith, Karen Shauger, Mike Uliss, and Craig De Pascale The crisp, autumn evening climaxed Butler's fantastic victory over Hill- side at Montclair State College, and everyone was in high spirits at the dance. Elegant dresses, gorgeous flowers, and appropriate music added a festive flavor to the evening M3TV ESj B.H.S. STEPS OUT IN STYLE Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a host of playboy bunnies, a Chinese couple, Cleopatra, baby dolls, and various other ghouls dripping greasepaint made themselves at home in the B.H.S. cafeteria Spanish dancer Arlene Barchuk and Incredible Hulk Paul Johnson won for best costumes Variations of disco, rock, and slow dances provided by the band, Apple Famished, would-be John Travoltas and their ladies had doughnuts and apple juice At the Sadie Hawkins Valentine's dance on February 10, DJ Victor Coscia asked the student body to Let me call you Sweet- heart.'' Cals went stag or drag depending on their courageous natures The crowd kept two turntables spinning to such tunes as V MCA and Stairway to Heaven throughout the night 159 ANOTHER OPENING OF ANOTHER SHOW When the curtain rises on the first act of Pride and Prejudice , into the spotlight will go not only nervous young actors, but also Butler High School's recently com- pleted auditorium. The Butler Players are proud to present Pride and Prejudice as the premier extravaganza Theatre can only be at its best in the newly renovated facilities. Reflections of the ancient audi- torium which rained plaster onto the unsuspecting are blotted out by the illustrious qualities of the new one. No longer must one bellow out lines that with proper acoustics could be whispered Nor is it necessary to dodge paint chips and other debris Instead, B.H.S. can truly have pride in this production and its location 160 161 SI! LUIS LIKES THEU.S.! This past year Butler High School was pleased to welcome Luis Mogollon as its exchange student Luis, who hails from San Cristo bel, Venezuela, resides with the Burt family of Glen Wild Lake, Bloomingdale Although he has already graduated from high school back home in Venezuela, Luis is a senior here at Butler. This fall Luis was a member of the soccer team, which he greatly enjoyed. Other interests include basketball, volleyball, building model airplanes, and ping-pong Luis looks forward to returning home to Venezuela to continue his studies in college as a civil engineer I uis has found being in the United States an interesting and enjoyable experience 162 163 THE PEOPLE'S CHOICE CLASS COUPLE Margie Smith Don Buglino CLASS BRAINS Mary Cinquepalma lay Irishman 164 BEST PERSONALITIES Marlene Ziegler Mike Uliss BEST LOOKING Margie Smith Tom Usinowicz CLASS FLIRTS Lori DeKorte Tony Silvestri BEST DANCERS Rebeca Ruiz Lenny Weiss CLASS ATHLETES Kate Struble Craig DePascale MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Eva Bostek, Tom Mahon lay Trishman MOST MUSICAL Barb Moltane Paul Fersch 165 CLASS CLOWNS Gail Ryerson Pat McClinton CLASS SPEAKERS Mary Kirshbaum Steve Smolen MOST UNPREDICTABLE Mo Nogrady Sal Sisto MOST ARTISTIC Kristen DeRonta Mike Morse MOST POPULAR Marlene Ziegler Tom Usinowic MOST SPIRITED Marlene Ziegler Tim Golden NICEST SMILES Kathy Char man Mike Uliss 167 VBWNRM SENIOR DIRECTORY A ABDEL, KHAIEK TALIH AlBANESf. It was but yesterday we met in a dream. You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longings have built a tower in the sky. But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn. The noontide is upon us and our half waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. I would also like to thank Ms Gayle Rembold, Nugget Advisor, for her help and guidance that helped us through some difficult deadlines! On behalf of the Nugget Staff and myself, I would like to wish the Class of 1979 the best of luck and happiness in their future endeavors. I hope the 1979 Nugget proves to capture at least some of the many experiences we have had in our years at Butler High School, and will be remembered in the years to come. Editor-in-Chief Gail Ryerson It is my pleasure to take this opportunity to thank all the people involved in the production of the 1978-79 Nugget Yearbook. The Nugget Staff has been fabulous throughout the year; the work was enormous and sometimes seemed monumental, but spirit, enthusiasm and the desire for perfection never faltered. As a result, a beautiful, fine quality yearbook has been produced. My special congratulations to the Editors, Gail Ryerson and Lynne Milden, for their dedication to yearbook and staff I found the department editors fantastic to work with and extremely responsible. Thank you all for being the special people that you are! Appreciation is also extended to Mr. Goldberg, Mr. Smith, Delma Studios, Progress Associates, Mr Frank Capasso, Mr Barry Melamed, and the Butler Board of Education. Congratulations to the graduating Class of 1979; may you enjoy the yearbook and find pride in it and in yourselves. Nugget Advisor Ms. Gayle Rembold vv 5x -r. V, . V _ ‘■V-T fc . r_ '•►!
