BICENTENNIAL EDITION OF THE NUGGET BUTLER HIGH SCHOOL 1976 The Spirit of ’76 isn't the past -- it’s the present and the future. We are the people who can make it have a new and special meaning not an old and worn out idea! Just as the U.S. was beginning a new experience in 1776, so are we, the class of 1976, beginning a new experience. We’ve learned just as the colonists learned — through experience. Now is the time that we will be on our own with our exper- iences and knowledge to guide us. I, Gary Matzura, leave my mathematical ability to Miss Nielsen with hopes that she can do more with it than I could. I, Linda Lydon, leave my shorthand “speed” and notebooks to my sister because she's going to need them and my hysterical laughter to anyone who can laugh at himself as well as everyone else. I, Vince Cascini, leave my good spirits to the class of'77. I, Linda Fletcher, leave the position of first base to the next first baseman of the team. I, Alice Muhlback, leave my mission to Mary McKernan. I, Glen Welch, leave a copy off my book, “Full Court”, to Mr. Hayes. I, Kathy Scarpa, leave the name Margaret to whoever wants it. I, Patti Kelly, leave a wish for the Best of Luck to the 1976 Field Hockey Team. I, Sharon Hirsch, leave my car to the auto shop. I, Cindy Terrulli, leave my happiness to Diana (Zap) Zurofsky. I, Ginny Garcia, leave Mr. Malzone my French Phone. I, Patti Horwath. leave determination, drive, am- bition, happiness and hope to the Butler High School Drill Team. Above all 1 leave an unmeasurable amount of love and thanks to Mrs. Deborah Hoeflinger. I, Colleen Cusack, leave my dynamic sports ability to Lynn. I, Dave Muller, leave my dancing feet to Ruth Lampe. I, Patti Golden, leave my second set of gym clothes to the person who ripped off the first set. I, Linda Brown, leave the job of basketball score keeping to Ruth Lampe. I, Sharon Bergin, leave my height to anyone who dislikes being looked down upon. I, Gene Scognamiglio, leave my body to Mr. Yarmac for biological studies. I, Suzan Rambach, leave my sanity to the Butler High School music department because that is where I lost it. I, Kathy Krieger, leave 100 gallons of chocolate chip mint ice cream to Lori Merish and my dirty peds to Dawn Spellman. CLINTON ACKERMAN 9 Homestead Ave., Butler. N.J. Club is a group of students who put together a weekly 15-minute T.V. show which was aired on cable T.V. Every Wednesday after school, these students went to the Cable T.V. studio, located in Pompton Lakes, to tape the show. Everything was run by the students themselves (news writing, taping, technical controls, and cameras). Some of the news which was featured on this year’s shows were the Junior Officials program, interviews with the various coaches, class trips, and films done by students in school. The Radio Club was responsible for presenting the morning announcements during the homeroom period. Some members of the Radio Club also put together a weekly 5-minute radio show which was aired every Tuesday afternoon over WSUS-102 FM in Franklin. This show consisted of all the latest news and sports of Butler High School. Paper Service p. 127 Linda Lydon Chris War Jaymie War Claire Theusen Karen Ommerman Laura Osborne Maple Leaf P. 128 V. This year of 1976 is one of the most important years in our country’s history. Accordingly, this edition of the Nugget will be a very special edition. We have chosen to follow the theme of the Bicentennial in a new manner, that of now, instead of two hundred years ago. After all, who is it but we who are the important parts of the Bicentennial. Hopefully we have succeeded in conveying this feeling throughout our Bicentennial edition of the Nugget. The Editors and staff of the 1976 Nugget wishes to extend our thanks to a number of people who have so willingly helped us create this special edition of the Nugget. Those people we thank are: Laura Whealan for Artwork, Jim Sciuto, Mrs. Giblin and Mr. Potenza our advisors. As advisor to the yearbook staff, may I congratulate them on a job well-done. Their creative ideas and ability to get along with each other have resulted in what I consider a yearbook that will be considered a great one for years to come. Again, Congratulations to the Nugget Staff and also the 1976 Graduating Class. Mrs. Giblin Nugget Advisor The Risden House, located on the corner of Arch Street and Manning Avenue, is one of the older houses in Butler. It is estimated that the house was built between 1879 -1882. At the turn of the century the lower part of the house was converted to a millinery shop. The Risden House is now divided into apartments.
