The fall sports sea- son begins raising an air of excitement which encircles the students. Spirit week is a prime example of this enthusiasm. This involves the decorating of the halls and the vibrant cheers of the pep rallies. All this excitement is center- ed around the active sports of football, cross country, and field hockey. As the Autumn season proceeds the Drama Club produces an excellent dramatization of The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds. The entire cast deserves congratulations for a splendid performance. Early in Autumn Student Council runs elec- tions for Freshman officers and English repre- sentatives. They quickly set the patterns for which their work will follow. They set their goal towards the enrichment of the student body. The Autumn season comes to a close with the traditional Thanksgiving game between Butler and Pompton Lakes which attracts many fans. The election of Harvest Queen takes place and the harvest Ball brings an end to a season of hard work. 107 • Jw v r, 108 t From beginning to end the Football season carries with it an air of great excitement, which is obvious from the photographs on these pages. 112 SEaJWBfc5 BUTLER FOOTBALL 1974 Opponent West Milford 0 Pequannock 20 Kinnelon 0 High Point 13 Franklin 0 Sparta 14 Jefferson 7 Lakeland 8 Pompton Lakes MVP: Dennis Van Orden 10 117 119 At the Thanksgiving game the Harvest Queen and her Attendants are presented to the audience. The weather conditions cause the sport fans to seek the indoors. Among the sports to enjoy are basketball, bowling, fencing, indoors track and wrestling. As the joyous season proceeds Christmas week knocks at the door with a splendid concert per- formed by the band and choir. The band and choir performs at night with a special assembly for the stu- dents during the last day before vacation. To continue the Christmas spirit a Senior Citizens Party is sponsored by the Student Council. To add to the entertainment the senior citizens are visited by our favorite Santa Claus. With the passing of Christmas, the Mid-Winter dance takes place adding to the winter fantasy and making way for Spring the season of birth. 137 138 r RECORDS: Most wins in a single season 22 Previous record: 21 wins in 1973 Single game team scoring record: 84 points Butler vs. Sparta Previous record: 1973 78 points Butler vs. Franklin Season Scoring Leaders: Total Points Average Debby Marion 399 14.8 Pat Cagg 285 10.6 Season Rebounding Leaders Total ReboundsAverage Debby Marion 344 12.7 Kathy Schimpf 259 9.6 HONORS: All Skyline Conference First Team: Debby Marion Honorable Mention: Kathy Schimpf Patti Kelly Cindy DiDolci Pat Cagg MVP Debby Marion 139 ) The Womens' Basketball team was made of very dedicated people Their efforts were well honored as they placed in many tournaments and received a great deal of recognition They could never have achieved so much without the ef- forts of a fantastic person,Coach Marge Giles. 144 146 MENS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM RECORD: 11-9 Butler 63 West Milford 57 Butler 79 Pequannock 61 Butler 50 West Orange 61 Butler 77 Kinnelon 45 Butler 57 High Point 47 Butler 53 Franklin 64 Butler 78 Sparta 53 Butler 68 Jefferson 72 Butler 60 Lakeland 48 Butler 49 Pompton Lakes 47 Butler 71 West Milford 53 Butler 57 Pequannock 62 Butler 73 Kinnelon 49 Butler 69 High Point 47 Butler 48 Franklin 62 Butler 69 Sparta 61 Butler 61 Whippany Park 72 Butler 65 Jefferson 61 Butler 62 Lakeland 63 Butler 56 Pompton Lakes 57 WOMENS' BASKETBALL 1975 VARSITY RECORD: Overall 22-5 Conference 16-2 (2nd place) TOURNAMENTS: 3rd place Morris County Tourna- ment 3rd place Butler Invitational Christmas Tournament MVP: Debby Marion SEASON SCORES: Butler 58 West Milford 27 Butler 32 Pequannock 34 Christmas Tournament Butler 62 DePaul 24 Butler 40 Lyndhurst 62 Butler 46 Montville 40 Butler 52 Kinnelon 40 Butler 68 High point 27 Butler 55 Franklin 16 Butler 52 Sparta 13 Butler 56 Jefferson 38 Butler 58 Lakeland 29 Butler 61 O.T West Milford 60 Butler 34 Pequannock 39 Butler 60 Kinnelon 38 Morris County Tournament Butler 47 West Morris 45 Butler 47 Roxbury 51 Butler 45 Montville 40 Butler 66 High Point 15 Butler 76 Franklin 34 Butler 84 Sparta 29 Butler 52 Jefferson 39 Butler 57 Pompton Lakes 24 Butler 73 Lakeland 39 State Tournament Butler 47 West Morris 40 Butler 42 Phillipsburg 68 vi. Election Day the parties introduce their members and the mayor presents his platform to the student body. IN MCMOIMM KIM BARRETT MARK STREITER As we go through our patterns of life we stop to remember two of our classmates whose patterns were cut short. Memories Memories, Pressed between the pages of my mind Memories, Sweetened through the ages just like wine. Quiet thoughts come floating down And settle softly to the ground, Like gold of autumn leaves around my feet. I touch them and they burst apart — With sweet memories, sweet memories— Of holding hands and red bouquets, And twilights trimmed in purple haze, And laughing eyes and simple ways. And quiet nights and gentle days — Without you. — Author Unknown As we look back upon the last four years, all of us can see how Butler helped to pattern our lives. The seniors will be going differ- ent ways, experiencing new things- everyone patterning their own life. But we will have a common begin- ning, starting graduation night. Each shall leave Butler High and go his own way. We will all remember the good and the bad times, that made up our four years at Butler. Hopefully the good will outweigh the bad. Our high school days are coming to a close and we all are looking forward to the future and the new patterns our lives will follow from here. No matter what their pattern the Nugget Staff would like to congrat- ulate the Class of '75 and wish them luck in all they do. weRTKeneim tflZZA TOM’S PIZZA INN Snack Bar Counter Service — Hot Dogs, Hamburgers Steak Sandwiches — Slices — Sicilian Pies 2 Boonton Ave. Butler, N. Life in itself being complex, forms its own patterns, always different, always fas- cinating. We as individuals are patterns, weaving this way and that, creat- ing and sometimes tearing down, always to recreate once more. Some of the most beautiful patterns, however, are those formed by the joining of two or more separate designs. This type of pattern can be found in our everyday surroundings. It is found in caring, guiding, helping and giving. We the Editors and staff of the 1975 Nugget would like to give special thanks to the following people for so unselfishly helping us to create this one segment of life's eternal pattern: Bonnie Kikkert for artwork on page one, Betty McLaughlin and Nancy Merish for divider page designs. Mr. M. Assayag, Mr. T. Malzone, Ms. K Savage and Bob Dresser for many of our photo- graphs, Ms. M. Giles for her understanding, Mr. J. McCoppen for use of darkroom facilities and especially to our advisers Ms. G. Giblin and Mr. F. Potenza for keeping the peace. As new adviser to the Nugget I came to Butler with great expectations for this year's yearbook. Our first task was to choose a theme and patterns seemed to be so appropriate. I only hope the editors of future years can follow the exceptional patterns of this years staff. They were hard working, consciencious and as dedicated a group of young people as I ever dreamed possible. The class of '75 was most fortunate in having such bright people working on this book. To Rachel Muscato whom I could always rely on to be ready with interesting and creative lay- outs, I say congratulations and thanks. I also want to express my appreciation to her right hand girl, Gale Westdyk, who did so much running around. No one will ever believe the work that our photography edi- tor did. She worked up all photography schedules, or- ganized a staff of photographers, saw to it that every student in this entire school got his picture taken, not to mention the hundreds of candids she took herself. Beth Pugh will always be remembered for her dedi- cation to this years yearbook Last but not least our book would not be complete without it's many writ- ten words How can we thank Denise La Luna enough for her hours at the typewriter?
