As the future unfolds, Butler High School will continue to be a large high school. The extensive geographical areas served earlier will be reduced, but the population growth offsets this. The broad educational offerings of the school will be continued and expanded. The heritage of fifty years of service to youth will serve as an inspiration and a challenge to keep Butler High School a strong educational institution. Once upon a time There was an Idea that GREW and GREW all The year 1956 sees the graduatron of the flftreth class from Butler Hrgh School Whrle the high school expanded over the years xt drd not grow llke Topsy It was enlarged to meet mcreasrng demands for better educatron always with one eye on a plan and another on the future Before 1888 Butler boys and grrls at tended Bloommgdale Grammar School When Bloomrngdale refused turtron en rollees from lts nexghbormg town Butler Rrchar Butler donated two hundred square feet of land and a three room burldmg with a tower and clock was con structed The new school system had a prrncrpal but only one teacher Soon a hrgh school was founded Three Senrors formed the first graduatrng class of 1907 Growmg attendance necessrtated the addrtron of srxteen classrooms between 1905 and 1916 During the 19205 an auditorium and gymnasium were built Frfteen classrooms and more facrlrtres were added ln 1938 Two years later the Krel House was purchased for extracur rrcular actrvrtres and the present plant was complete Thls year Butler Hrgh had a record enrollment of over fifteen hundred stu dents and the posmon of asslstant prrn trve workload In the near future the puprl populatron may decrease as several sendrng clrstrrcts bulld therr own hlgh schools However the quality of a Butler education wrll not cnmrmsh Smaller classes wrll ease the learnmg process and the growrng area around Butler wrll contrnue to use the school s many facxlrtxes Butler High School -- 1889 I l I I - . . . , , . . . , . . - ' 9 u n . .u . , A , Q.
