HIRTY-ONE classes have been graduated from Butler High School. We, the class of l938, stand as the thirty-second and the largest class in the history of the school. Yet in size, we but follow the general pattern set by classes before usp each class since 1909 has been larger than the one preceding it. Although there was a public school in Butler as early as 1888, a high school class did not graduate until 1907. Included in this first class of three girls, was Florence Richards, now Mrs. I... L. Hanby, the mother of Mrs. Iohn Marshall, a present member of our faculty. The class of 1908 had but one graduate, Mr. Fred Norman: From then on the graduating class doubled at intervals in record time. In 1912, there were fifteen graduates: in 1918, thirty-three. The class of 1928 numbered sixty-three. This year a sen- ior class of a hundred and ninety-three makes individual appearance in our year book. Not on account of superior numbers but rather upon commencement innovations do we base our bid for special remembrance. Butler will see a class in cap and gown this year for the first time, and also for the first time will wit- ness a commencement out-of-doors. The grand- stand will serve as a platform for the class, and the football field will hold the spectators in the manner of an outdoor concert. This is a neces- sary move because the auditorium will no longer accommodate the familes and friends of all the graduates. Therefore with numbers we follow one pre- cedent and, in turn, set two others.
