Hisfory of fhe Class of i936 Sepfember I932 marked fhe enfry of fhe class of '36 info fhe porfals of Bufler High School. During fhose firsf few weeks, mosf of us made ourselves conspicuous by such fhings as affending fhe wrong classes, and going home af fhe wrong fime. However, we soon became acquainfed wifh fhe regular rouYfine and seffled down fo hard work. S The summer of I933 was memorable for us, for in fwo monfhs fhe fransformafion from green freshies fo inifiafing sophomores was effecfed. ln February of fhaf year, we made our debuf info fhe social world, fhe occasion being a pafriofic dance. Alfhough posfponed because of sub-zero weafher, fhis affair was our firsf real success. We embarked upon our Junior year as dignified upper classmen defermined fo do our besf in all fhaf we affempfed. The climax of fhe social year was fhe Junior Promenade-our farewell gesfure fo fhe Seniors. Affer weeks of diligenf work, aided by our loyal class advisors, we fransformed fhe gym info a sunny Spanish pafio. lmmediafely fhereaffer we sfarfed in business by faking over fhe sale of candy affer fhe Seniors' deparfure for Washingfon. We refurned fhe following Sepfember, nof as green freshmen nor wise Sopho- mores nor even as dignified Juniors-no-we refurned fo B. H. S. as Seniors. We sfarfed building up our bank accounf in earnesf when we launched a magazine campaign realizing a fofal of fwo hundred and sixfy five dollars. Mary Shorf proved fo be fhe besf salesman for she secured 5I subscripfions. The refurns from our Chrisf- mas enferfainmenf furfher added fo our funds. Alfhough fhe profifs came fo us, fhe credifs musf go largely fo fhe unfiring efforfs of Miss Kefchum, our Senior advisor, and Mr. De Pue fhe musical direcfor. Good news came af fhis fime when we heard fhaf mid-year exams had been abolished. Wifh a sigh of relief we began fhe semesfer rafher lighf hearfedly. ln March, fhe newly selecfed play casf began rehearsals for fhe spring play. True fo ex- pecfafions If Won'f Be Long Now was presenfed before a capacify house-and became anofher greaf success-fhanks fo fhe casf and our faifhful coach, Miss Kefchum. To boosf our candy sales furfher, we held a popularify conffesf won by Carol Jacobus, a Junior. Our year's sale of candy under fhe able supervision of Douglas Braun, neffed us over four hundred and sevenfy dollars which added fo our ofher funds was enough fo make our dream of a Washingfon frip a realify. On April 30, we leff for a fhree-day four of fhe Capiffal Cify. Long affer ofher evenfs of school have faded info fhe pasf, we feel fhaf fhe experiences, fhe associa- fions and fhe fun of fhis frip will sfand ouf mosf clearly. Under fhe guidance of Mr. Easferbrook, fhe sfaff worked diligenfly fo publish fhis volume commemorafing our four years af Bufler High School. A large share of fhe credif is due fhe business managers who success- fully collecfed ads despife fhe business slump. James Hannigan, our super salesman, alone collecfed fhree hundred and fiffy dollars worfh of adverfising. Now as we look forward Pfo commencemenf, we experience a feeling of com- mingled ioy and sadness, ioy because we have affained fhe goal for which we have been sfriving: sadness because of fhe severing of infimafe friendships and happy days spenf af Bufler High School.
