to take a familiar form by January. the Rise at BHS As the students of Butler Senior High are growing, the school building itself is expanding. Butler Senior High, built four years ago for 2,000 students, no longer accomodates the increased enrollments. The cafeteria and auditorium must be used for study halls. The vocal and instrumental rooms are used as homerooms. To ease the overcrowded conditions, a new addition is being constructed during the school year. The library is being expanded to more than twice the original size to provide space for more extensive research facilities. The two-story academic addition, located between the wood shop and the 200 wing, will increase the capacity of the school to 2,867 students. The upper level of the new academic wing will include a language laboratory and seven language classrooms, chemistry laboratory and classroom, typing classroom, two sci- ence rooms, and a recording office. The lower level will house classrooms, project rooms, a team-teaching unit, and a conference room. The students and teachers soon became accustomed to the noise of the con- struction as the twenty-three room addition was being built. ,f 'f 40 .gf A huge crane was needed to place the beams that form the superstructure ofthe new academic wing. 5
