The Torch of Learning Burns at Butler High To Train Us FOR INDUSTRY Chemistry, Physics, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineer- ing Drawing teach lnasic principles the worker must know if he enters industry. On a field trip to Armco, Arthur Balph is briefed on jobs by his father, james Balph, BHS '38. FOR BUSINESS FOR THE TRADES In Wood Work, Shop, Auto Mechanics, practical skills are learned which the students can apply to earning a living in a trade. Anthony Kovasky and Chester Dellon use shop tools and the power saw with care and precision. Typing, Bookkeeping, Office Practice, Co-Operative Training each provide learning and drill necessary for future stenographers. Carol Tritsch and Mary Jo Gibson check debit and credit columns for accuracy.

Here three boys of different faiths- Joseph Friedman, John Warman, Donald Ansman- clasp hands in fellowship. -VMZ 1 FOR ALL RACES Butler High pupils trace their ancestry to countries all over the world, but all are Americans, learning of their country, its customs, its privileges, its opportunities. FOR ALL WALKS OF LIFE Butler High pupils come from Butler City and nine other districts. All learn together that it is what one is, not who he is that counts. FOR FUTURE HOMEMAKERS Whether she goes to college, teaches school, pounds a typewriter, clerks in ai store, every girl dreams of having a home and cooking for that dream man. BHS in a well equipped Home Economics course teaches her how. Gayle Deal and Nancy Natili collaborate on a pie. The Torch of Learning Burns FOR THOSE WHO DESIRE HIGHER LEARNING Through courses such as Chemistry, Physics, Economics, College English, Advanced Mathematics pupils are pre- pared to take college work and to be eligible for scholar' ships. In 1956-57 Butler High students won scholarships valued at over 581,000 So Pat Burns, Dennis Luclcey, Carrie Lee Neergaard are studying up for special schol- arship exams for 1958. FOR FUTURE COMMUNITY LEADERS As training for the future, the student body participates in many community projects, among them the annual Heart Drive. This year the teams under the direction of Student Council collected 53378.86 For the suc cessful effort Joe Friedman, Don Walter, Eleanor Glad den and Kaye Winters made careful plans with Mrs Slcrinalc, chairman.
