...-. I For the fourth year in a row, the Butler High School Band earned a one rating at the district music con- test held at Central Missouri State College. Again, they were the only band in the West Central Conference to receive this honor. The concert band performed the pieces Masque and Folk Song Suite. At the annual Spring Festival, the band appeared with the guest soloist, Mr. John Leisenring. He teaches trombone lessons at the Con- servatory in Kansas City. The high school and junior high stage bands also performed several numbers. The Junior High Concert Band traveled to Ft, Scott, Kansas where they competed in the Annual Spring Music Festival. And the Beat Goes JWA6 Band officers displaying music abilities A Il This year the marching Butler Bears and the marching Butler Cubs marched home with two first place trophies and one sec- ond place trophy. Both march- ing units performed at the half time shows during football seasons. The pep band was an added attraction this year to the var- sity basketball games. They were under the student direction of Paul Jones. To follow tradition, the con- cert band performed excellently in district competition with many groups reaching eligibility of state contest. -- , . . N High School Stage Band Stage Band This year the High School Stage Band traveled to Union Star, Missouri where they re- ceived a first place trophy. They were also very fortunate to have Rick Brumback, Bobi Rush, and Leslie Noe in the all-star band. At the Spring Festival, the High School Stage Band per- formed with Mr. John Leisen- ring, professional trombonist. The Junior High Stage Band also traveled to Union Star to compete in their jazz festival.
