Football Record Drops: 4-4-1 Grizzlies are not number one in ' 82. After finish- ing 12-0 in 1981, the Butler County grid team did a complete turn around in ' 82 by finishing 4-4-1. Disapointing? Not really. Look at it from a sophomore point of view. Dur- ing their two years of playing Grizzlies ' football, the sophomores racked up a 16-14-1 record. Not bad at all. With the graduation of some key players and a lack of experienced sophomores, the Grizzlies were a freshman-dominated squad. Not to mention the unexpected resignation of Coach Fayne Henson just three weeks before the summer practices began. Brian McNeely was named successor to Henson and just one week before practice started, went out and gathered a staff and went to work, Actually, McNeely did a fair job under very difficult circum- stances. Coach McNeely said, Our team played really well at times this year, but we really lacked a great deal of consistency. We have a good group of fresh- men returning for next year and I would expect us to be more consistent. In December it was announced by the college that McNeely had been fired. Within a few days, a spe- cial Board of Trustees meeting was called and the official announcement was that McNeely had been rehired as head coach. HEAD COACH BRIAN MCNEELY watches the Grizzly action as he receives information from coaches in the press box. The Grizzly team is led onto the field by co-captains Darren White and Jim Phillips at Circle High School in Towanda where several of the home games were played. 18
