Two new eight-plex dormitory buildings, one for males and one for females, resemble houses. Each contains a kitchen area with cooking facilities, a living and dining area, and two private bathrooms. The campus grew with construction of a new building housing the nursing department, journalism, chorus, instrumental music, laboratory science, photography, and audio visual. For fall, a five percent hike over the preceding year in enrollment resulted when 2,327 students enrolled. The 1981 football squad was undefeated and ranked number two in the National Rankings before playoffs started. This was the first time Butler was ranked nationally in twenty years. The changes are only the beginning of what the campus will encounter as it prepares itself for the students of the future.
