On June 23, at a meeting of the students and faculty, Mr. Ben Giffen, awarded the trophies, medals, certificates, and school letters to the various teams and individuals. Mary Coots, captain of the girls' track team, and Jack Chernoff, captain of the boys' track team, received the trophies that were won at the fourth annual junior high track and field championship at Schenley Oval on June 8. This is tl1e fourth consecutive year that the Business lads won the cham- pionship and the first time for the girls. BASEBALL About eighty appeared on the field when the first call for baseball candi- dates was issued and the prospects looked ve1'y bright. Two weeks after the hard work had begun the squad be- gan to reduce little by little and by the time the season was ready to open the squad was cut down to about twenty players. After the squad was reduced Coach XVhite then started work in earn- est and by the time the opening game came along, Coach NVhite had his re- gular team selected. Business High School won the Junior High School Baseball Championship, winning every league game' except the one with Ralston which was the last game of the season. Business might have beaten Ralston had it not been for two of its players who had been doing great work all season for Business, be- ing made ineligible to play a few days before the game with Ralston. Riverside defeated Ralston, two weeks after Business traveled to XYest End and defeated Riverside. Ralston was again defeated by Irwin. Business had defeated lrwin early in the Season. Business also defeated Latimer, and the game that had to be played with Rals- ton was the only league game that was left to be played. Ralston's defeats by Riverside and Irwin entitled Business to the Junior High School Baseball Cham- pionship provided they would beat Rals- ton. Business was defeated by Ralston and therefore was tie with Riverside for the championship. As tl1e rule of the Board of Public Education says that no championship games are to be played off, Business was then entitled to the thnn pionslnp.
