THE U0ill.lIEIf CIAL IFIJUUIFD ll M , ll , gg., 1. Ma .0-B GIRLS The freshman class is always the largest unit in a school. Of the -155 freshman who entered in September nearly 300 are girls. This year for the first time this group has held regular meetings on Tuesday at the Special Period. The objects of this freshman organization are: 1. To promote general culture. 2. To become better acquainted. 3. To foster a better school spirit. -1. To develop leadership. 5. To promote class activities that will call into use information and skill obtained through school sub- jects. Short sketches emphasizing the care of the skin, hair and teeth were written and given by girls from different classes. On December 7 the program was a review of an article, Good Manners for all Occasions written by a well known high school principal. The program for December 19, the last meeting before the December vaca- tion, was a review of the skteches given at previous meetings. The girls had as their guests at that meeting the mem- be1's of the 9-B Faculty and the 9-B Boys. The girls' holiday plans were gifts made by them, and contributions of fruit. These were sent to various Day Nurseries and Public Homes. TIIE Bl.'S1N1iNS IJIHLS I'l,I'li The Business Girls' Club which is composed of all the colored girls in the school has had some very interesting meetings under the direction of its new leader Miss Moore. The purpose ot' the club is to unite its members in the spirit of t'riendliness, and service, to win other girls to its membership, and to stand for the best things at home, in the school, at work, and in the church, and community. The oliicers elected at the beginning of September are as follows: President, Sallarthiele Pollard, 10-A-1. Vice President, Laura Reid,,10-A-3. Secretary, Gladys Lane, 10-B-3. Treasurer, U. V. Ross, 9-A-6. HOUSEHOLD ECONOJIY Two years ago Miss Irene McDermott, Director of Household Economy, gave Business High Girls a new interest in Domcstic Science in that she sent Miss Kronfrt, who was to teach the girls to make the things they needed. Exhibits have been held twice each semester showing samples of the ac- complishments of our girls, and a great deal of talent was discovered. Several girls found that they had more talent for sewing and designing clothes than for shorthand and so were given a special schedule giving them more time tor the development of that talent and are now employed in dress- making establishments, making good. Many of our girls wanted to learn to embroider and knit. They were given the opportunity and now they know how to keep their fingers busy, in leisure time, to beautify their clothes and hoinc-s. Among the services rendered by the Household Economy Department were the making ot' one hundred and ten cos- tumes t'or our Operetta Cinderella , given at Schenley High last June. An American flag was made, also a I rench flag. Typewriter covers are mended, athletic garments worn by our boys are kept in repair. -.-lima Jacob.
