S afofziiaad. 5:46446 e I THE BUSHNELL-PRAIRIE CITY SPARTANS had a rather disappointing basketball sea- son. The boys won eight games, dropping sixteen to their opponents. One of the Spar- tans' difficulties was the lack of experi- ence, as only three lettermen returned from last year's winning ball club. However. the biggest problem of the season was finding the right combination of boys which would work together to give the best results. The boys also had trouble in com- bining their efforts on the same night. No matter how hard they tried, it seemed that they could not all c1ick on the same night. As the boys entered the Blind Tournament held at Monmouth, they drew a small, fast Aledo team as their opponents. The Spartans lost this one by the score of 59-56. The follow- ing night the Spartans won third place in the tourney by downing Carthage with a brilliant fourth-quarter attack. As the season continued, the boys were forced out of the County Tournament by Western High. The end of the season found the Spartans battling with Valley High for third place in the Olympic Conference standings to make a conference record of six wins and six losses. In the final game, the Spartans were matched against a highly-rated Monmouth team in the Regional Tournament. Although the Spartans lost, the game was considered one of the best played of the 1958-1959 season. The Cadet's record was eight won and thirteen lost.
