Mrs. Iohnson, our specially trained guidance coun- selor, worked with every student in B-PC, either on personal or educational problems. One of her most important tasks was that of administering and in- terpreting the results of all special tests. Mrs. Davis, our speech correc- tionists, set up and supervised a pro- gram of corrective speech activities. With the help of modern equipment and special education geared to help- ing students with speech difficulties, she was able to benefit students who had need of her assistance. A service more familiar to B-PC students was the library. With our stepped-up academic curriculum, the pupils found the library a helpful source of research material for various classroom projects. Well stocked with novels, biographies, old favorites, and the most recent editions of periodical literature, the library has had its biggest year. HOW DO YOU SPELL allegiance? Is this the proper plural possessive form of lady? Do you include the volume in a footnote? and How can you tell whether a verbal is a gerund or a participle? are some of the ques- tions answered in the English classes. These courses provide a broad and invaluable back- ground ior the student. Freshmen review grammar and read DAVID COPPERPIELD, while the sophomores study IULIUS CAESAR. English III students learn about the lives of American authors and read their works, while the seniors in college preparatory English acquire skills in writing themes, term papers, and book re- views. General English pupils learn practical English usage, mechanics, spelling, capitaliza- tion, and punctuation, as well as cover units on business English and advertising propagan- da. In all English classes, students are taught to express themselves correctly, learn to enun- ciate and punctuate properly, and develop skills in comprehensive reading. In Spanish I and II, students study verb forms and con- jugations, and read and translate a Spanish novel. They become familiar with the lang- uage and they gain an insight into the customs and culture of the Spanish speaking nations.
