These music organ- izations certainly keep busy during the year. I had a time keeping out of their way when they practiced, but I usually hid in the filing cabinet. The Melodie-Ettes, composed of junior and sen- ior girls, and the Philomels, the freshman and sophomore girls' chorus, were under the direc- tion of Mrs. Heffner. All of these singing groups took part in Carol singing activities and the formal concert at Christmas time, the County Music Festival in February, and in Baccalaureate and Com- mencement activities in May. Special singing groups, the girls' sextette and the boys' octette, took part in the District Music Contest and provided music for several school and community programs during the year. Donna Eld- I was certainly surprised when I saw how much work these librarians did in one day! Willadene Lovell was running from person to person, trying to collect overdue books and fines: Ioan Lovell and Donna Edwards were sorting the books from the bookbox Cl got out just in timelj, and Ethel and Leola were carrying the piles of new magazines from the office. Of course, these are just a few of the students who take care of these jobs during every study hall. Others on the staff take care of general library duties, but they really get a workout, too. These girls are forever stepping on my tail! They're always so busy running from room to room gathering up excuses, reading announcements, and attending to other important details that I'm scarcely noticed! Consequent- ly, when I run to the mailboxes for shelter, I find them so full of the mail these assistants place in them that l'm usually forced out in the open to be stepped on. She was much in demand as a vibraharp soloist, being one of the best in the field. Her untiring work with the choruses, sextette, and contest soloists showed how interested she was in the girls. She even had me running up and down the scales, when no one was around, of course! Mr. Shiplett, the band and boys' chorus director, was very friendly and cooperative with everyone. He is a talented vo- calist and plays the Cornet quite professionally. From the crack under the band room door, I watched him patiently oversee the practice of the contest ensembles, and they developed into all-state material under his guidance!
