TEAM Back Row: Manager, Bob Morris. Bob Roley, John Brown. Georgro Mead, Gene Mcfiuv, Ralph Heap, Dick Ido, Melvin Pershing, Jim Long, Daf d Brown, and Coach Lawson. Front Row: Lyle Wlalters, Ray Enter, Claire Myers, Jay Dee Kipling, and Leo Bartlett. 7952 2 Mend on the Mound. The baseball season of 1952 provided many close games, but no victories for my Spartans. Coach Lawson had difficulty getting full-scale practice under way, due to the poor condition of the field, and as a result, the Spartan baseballers were not always as sharp as they might have been, although they im- proved with every game. Iim Long, Bob, Roley, Ralph Heap, and Iohn Brown supplied the power at the plate. David Brown, with his left-handed knuckle-ball, and George Mead, with his right- handed fastball, were the moundsmen. Some of my friends on the team played all summer and were 10098 ready to make a good record in the 1953 season when, for the first time, baseball was an offi- cial Olympic Conference sport.
