'Me Semwie fennel Twelve enthusiastic but inexperienced boys answered Head Coach Lawson's call for bas- ketball recruits in November. Since these play- ers possessed about equal ability and only two were letter men, Mr. Lawson was faced all season with the problem of finding the right combination. By the end of the season, the five senior boys became the starting five. Meanwhile, the juniors and sophomores had gained much valuable experience. The season produced a 3-19 record, but my Spartan cagers went down fighting in every game and finished the schedule with a near upset of Macomb High in the Regional Tourney, going down to defeat 44-40. The spirit of my team throughout the season can be expressed as Iay Dee did at the half of almost every game, Come on, you guys: we can get 'em. Coach Trotter's Cadets were more success- ful, with an ll-8 record, and led their division of the conference for a big part of the season. They proved their ability in taking third place in the tough London Mills Tourney. VARSIT Y CHEERLEADERS : Bev, Lorene, Belly, Helen, Rosie ieefzlecwiew Our peppy Varsity Cheerleaders were re- sponsible for the wonderful school spirit that backed my Spartans at every game. Rosie Cassell, a veteran with four years of experi- ence, and Helen Dollarhide, a transfer from Chicago, were Seniors. Betty Reining, Beverly Kreider, and Lorene Bagley will have added experience for next year. The lunior Varsity Cheerleaders, who added color and life to the Cadet games, were Norma Spangler, Donna Buchen, and Karrol Bagley.
