CLASS HISTORY In the summer of 1939 the teachers at Bushnell least expected what would be their surprise at the starting of school in September. The Senior class of '51 started their first year of school, under the direction of Mrs. Parker, as most other classes: crying the first day, not wanting to stop drawing, and continuing 133:15 to play after the bell rang. 'Q The next few years we spent our time A learning reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic. il F7235 And--would you believe it--we learned that we had to stand in the corner for missing spelling words and for talking. The fourth and fifth grades were exciting years. We spent our recesses in a game of WAR. The girls, of course, made very able nurses, while the boys were soldiers on the battlefront. Somehow the teachers thought the girls were getting belligerentg so each girl had to write, I will not play with the boys --a hundred times. ln the sixth grade we moved over to the big building'l What a thrill that was! In the seventh grade we had a different teacher for every class. Several newcomers from Center Hill and Sumterville were welcomed to our class. The next year we became interested in sports. Both boys and girls played on the eighth grade basketball team. The girls were able to take home economics and the boys agriculture. We could also join different clubs. In our Freshman year we were kept quite busy. Some of our class made the basketball j team that year. The girls participated in the Junior- fs! b 9 Senior banquet, which had Southern Plantation for its y A: , ,,,y ,K theme. We dressed as negroes and sang songs of the yy. Old South. At the end of the year we, the lowly Fresh- men, took the honorable Seniors on a SPLASH PARTY at 4 Q50 Eaton's Beach. Then came our Sophomore year, with Mr. Flanagan as our sponsor. We began a sale of maga- zine subscriptions, to raise money for our class. We had many class parties during the year, but most mem- orable was our class party held at Eaton's Beach.
