Cummings 3 1966 HELEN BUSH SCHCOL f Q SEATTLE, WASHINGTON 5 The Plaque coRDY JENKLNS The name engraved on the Plaque under the words In action faithful and in honor clear belongs to the girl who has re- ceived the highest honor The Helen Bush School can bestow. Cordy jenkins has been chosen from the class of 1966 by faculty and students to receive this award. Throughout her four years at Bush, Cordy has been a leader in school government as well as in athletics and scholarship. Her wit, humor, and originality have endeared her to all, and her sagacity and high sense of integrity have won her the respect and friendship of her peers. In her unaffected, honest way, Cordy has given generously of herself to her school, and she will long be remembered and appreciated by this student body. 6 LISSA MITCHELL Runner-up for the 1966 Plaque is Lissa Mitchell. As first semester Council President, Lissa earned the respect and admiration of the student body through her capable leader- ship. I-ler friendliness, enthusiasm for school projects, and ability to carry out respon- sibilities successfully have been apparent in the numerous activities in which she has participated while at Bush. 1 5 5 Q 2 5 a Z Marjorie C. Livengood Along with the craziness and exhileration of life come re- sponsibilities and commitments. While never belittling the importance of our spirits and ideas, Mrs. Livengood has given us an awarness of these responsibilities. Student Government First Semester Court And Council COURT, STANDING: Virginia Wyman, Gair Hemphill, Annie Croco, Bobbi Hans- berger, Gudy Geibel, Betsy Bill. COUNCIL, KNEELING: Betsy Wheeler, Mary Youell, Sarah Parrington, Jane Gray, Debbie Marshall, Shelly Abel. Court is the judicial branch of the student government. The president, a member of the senior class, is elected by the student body, as are six representatives from grades nine through twelve. Court advises the students on school behavior and appearance. By enforcing a high standard of conduct, it helps the students to attain a sense of responsibility and maturity. I think we, the students at Bush, are capable of exhibiting our individuality and personal tastes with only a minimum of suggestions and advice. Court is the body elected at Bush to offer these suggestions when necessary. --Cordy jenkins, First Semester Court President Every rule at Bush has a reason behind it related to what is good for everyone in the school. There has to be people who have the special duty to be aware of whether or not the rules are being obeyed. Ithink this is the importance of court, not at all because people need punishment. --Betsy Bill, Second Semester Court President 44 Second Semester Court And Council COURT , STANDING: Sarah Parrington, Susan Bill, Norah Scully, Liz Ashley, Isabella Czarnecki, Mary C. Ellis. COUNCIL, KNEELING: Margo Galvin, Cindy Taylor, Anne Woodland, Phoebe Caner, Peggy Scheinman, Peggy Bill. The Council is the legislative branch of the student government. Meeting once a week, it encourages a close relationship between students and faculty and helps the school to operate smoothy. The members of Council include an elected president and the presidents of grades seven through twelve. We will try to remain in the background of student affairs, hoping that the student body will come forward on its own. --Lissa Mitchell, First Semester Council President I will try to encourage direct communication between the students and their government, for this is the only way Council can be a truly effective representative of Student opinions. --Olivia Arnason, Second Semester Council President Court And Council Presidents First Semester QRIGI-lTj:Cordy jenkins, Court, Lissa Mitchell, Council. The school newspaper cannot solve all of them for him, but it can be a positive and constructive influence. The free and open encounter of teen-agers with ideas and facts new to them is a necessity. The school newspaper is a significant medium in which to stimulate positive thinking about big and small problems. Arnason. As students write and re -write to convince other students, they discover that they must be critical of their own work. They realize that few persons have a monopoly on truth. As a consequence they become more reasonable and realistic-and more tolerant. So it has been during my year as editor. . . --L. Y. Laurence R. Student Sisters for a year Isabella, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Christian, and Dell. I would like everybody to know that this year has really been wonderful. And the reason it has been so wonderful is everybody. Each one of you even without noticing it, has contributed to make me love every minute I spent in Seattle, and especially at Helen Bush. This by letting me know your families, by let- ting me lmow you, or simply by saying hi in the corridors. . . And I am very sad because I realize that I have to go and leave you. I hope Iwill see you again some day. Maybe in Paris. . .Maybe I shall come back. . . But it may so happen that we will never see one an- other againg so Iwant to tell you that Iwill always be thinking of you, because you have taught me the greatest lesson, FRIENDSHIP. She attended school with her Swiss sister in St. Gallen and traveled throughout Switzerland and Germany with her family, but still found lots of time to eat chocolate and cheese and to hike in the beautiful Swiss Alps. The scenery was breath-taking, but far more important to me are the friends I' ll never forget. The things I learned about myself and the basic likenesses of people the world over are the most memorable aspects of my European summer.
