As the class started Its eighth year we were joined by Gary Nauman, and in 1955 the Burt High School was blessed with a new crop of Freshmen who were eagerly looking for- ward to their last four years of school. Little did the school know what this class would come up with next. At the beginning of the year the class was rejoined by Eugene Heerdt. David Stewart, Jerold Fish, and Howard Chipman also joined the class. On October 11, Darlene Gifford left and on November 5, Howard Chipman left to return to Austria. During the summer Ladell Olson moved but as we continued our climb we gained John Smidt in our sophomore year and lost Jerold Fish on Jan. 18th. The class, one never to give up, kept climbing and entered our junior year. We picked up Gene Cummings at the beginning and Ladell Olson realized his mistake, and again be- came a member on January 21. Gene Cummings dropped from the ladder on October 11 and Shirley Ackerman on December 19. Then came the last and final step. We had reached the top and to help us on our merry way was Edith Smith. Of the original fifteen members there are five who have gone all the way through school together. They are: Karen Bernau, Barbara Dremmel, Judy Hinckley, Judy Woltz, and J. D. Andrews. Good Luck for the future to the class of 1958! ! I was wondering recently what had become of the members of the Class of 58. Because my curiosity became so aroused, I returned to the fair city of Burt and called on a young bride, the former Judy Woltz. Talking to Judy, we find out many things about the Class. Karen Bernau and Roberta Hamilton are doing their best trying to catch the eyes of the young pilots while trying to keep their jobs as airline stewardesses. Edith Smith has become successful in the laboratory of science with the wonderful help of her assistant, Deloris Ackerman. John Smidt, who coaches basketball at the University of Iowa, has become famous for coaching the top team of the season. David Stewart now has a TV show of his own which receives the highest rating in the world. He is having J. D. Andrews on his show. J. D. is the noted Academy Award winner for the show, The Girls and I . Judy tells us there are many of her classmates who stayed in Burt. Gary Nauman now has his own garage in Burt. His main occupation is building and repairing hot rods. Judy has just received a long distance telephone call from Judy Hinckley. She said that she is going to teach fourth grade in Burt. Barbara Dremmel, the chief telephone operator, soon made this known around town. Eugene Heerdt is running his own dairy farm, while Ladell Olson is doing the account- ing for the Burt lumberyard, elevator, and bank. Well, that covers the Class of '58 who has gone out into the world to try to do their best. 16
