The eyes within my head cn see the world: The sun is saying good-bye o'er the sea The clouds of dif'rent colours look at thingsg My mind is stirring all inside of me. The sunset, it has gone by long ago. The moon, o'er the horizen, now looks down On night clubs, buildings, houses and apartment And me, in my shack on the other side of town. S, I do not really care 'bout living here, Although I cannot live another way. I sat and fished, and watched the seagulls fly, And welcomed bed and sleep at the close of day. I do not think that I could ever stand Being in cities, with no rest e'er to find. So, as an outsider, I sit and watch the people Running everywhere with confused minds. So here I lie, confusion by my side, My world wrapped 'round me, shelter from the d Not fighting battles I can never Wing And Waiting for the New World to begin . . . ing joel DECEMBER The sparkling, bright, cold falling snow Chills the world outside my door While I sit by my fire, and shadows I throw From my place by the fire down onto the floor. I'd go out, but I never again want to look At the snow-covered roads with the children at play. So I sit with my fire, my dreams, and my book, Quietly relaxing while thoughts slip away. I used to go out when I was a young lad: There was snow to slide down on and fun to enjoy, But these gold days are o'er, all my fun had, All my good times have ceased, I'm no longer a boy. The orange-red fire keeps me cozy and warm, While yellow dragon spreads salt to make the snow m And children stop play at the end of the storm. They are sad, I am oldg they must know how I felt. And cocoa on table now warms my lined face, With black coats and boots sadly lining the wall. All these things are December, I stay in my place, And the cascading crystals continue to fall. joel Nathanson 39 Nathanson 6

A learned owl and his little one, Stood high on a hill in the noonday sun. As they looked around at the world below, The little one talked, at first very slow. Father , he asked in a voice that was strained, What are they doing and what's to be gained? Who, said the owl, Gained by whom ? What do you mean? What's bothering you ! People, of course. Who else could it be? just look below and you'll soon see. The air is dirty, the water unclean, But still they do nothing. Now what does this mean? Distrust and hatred exists everywhere, Of war and hunger the world lives in fear. Money and power is for all that man cares, While children lie dying, their mothers in tears. I've seen large smoke mushrooms appear in the sky, How does this happen and please tell me why ! I don't know my son, but one thing's for sure, Man will just ruin himself more and more. Then all will end and all will halt, Then, too late, man will learn his faults. love, understanding and trust are the keys, To a world that is safe, a world filled with peace. Be wise, my son, and follow these rules, Do not be misled by money or jewels. Learn from the past and then start anew, Our time has come, it's been long overdue. Mary Ann Giordano 38
