Although they receive little formal recognition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the many ways in which they have helped the students and the school. SOCIAL RECREATION COMMITTEE The Social Recreation Committee, with Mr. Robert Eicholz as chairman worked with the Student Council to schedule fun-nights. Representa- tives are from grades 7-I 2. CONVOCATION COMMITTEE The Convocation Committee with a member from grades 7-12 pre- sented very enioyable convocotions. Chairman of the committee is Mr. Robert Cooke. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council is a representative body making up grades 6-12. Their goal is to coordinate school activities. Several members attended the State Student Council Convention. They conducted the Fund Drive and paid for new outfits for the cheerleaders. ATHLETIC COUNCIL The Burris Athletic Council made up of the president of Student Coun- cil and a member of the senior class and six faculty, decides upon the questions of standards, honors,c1nd policies in the field of athletics. The Golden Owls paced by Dave's, Johnson and Emens, finished second in the conference and the Shortridge lnvitational. They finished fifth in the toughest sectional in the state. Johnson led the Owls in all meets but one, where Emens was first. They were fol- lowed closely by Blanch, Shock, Hines, Turner, Powell, and Loose. Myers can look for- ward to a promising season as Johnson, Shock, Turner, and Loose will return, and moving up into varsity positions will be Wilson, Love, Ehrhardt, McVey and Huffman. The record this year was five wins and five defeats. The climax of the season was the State Meet at Purdue where the once defeated 200 yd. relay team took second. Bill Powell took second in the 50 yd. freestyle, Bob Powell fourth in the 200 yd. freestyle, and Larry Schulof, a very promising Freshman, third in the I50 yd. individual medley. They have attended summer and winter camp and spent a weekend at a State- Park. Mr. Errol Myers, their leader, has given much time and effort to the group. She-ela Davis an exceptionally outstanding scout is making a trip to the Philippines with twenty-one other scouts from all over he United States. CUB SCOUTS Mr. John Reed led the Cub Scouts into a very active year. They made three trips to Mounds State Park, visited the armory, made a study of Indians, and at Christmas time collected foods and took them to those: in need. GIRL SCOUTS The Girl Scouts under the leadership of Mrs. Graham and Mrs. Smith carried on various activities. They attended the Juliette Lowe Party at Harrison Township, went on a bicycle hike, mode nut cups for the hospital, and had a party for another troop. BROWNIES The Brownies under the direction ot: Mrs. David Meeks had an active year. They made nut cups and scrap books for the nurses' home, attended the Juliette Lowe Party, sold cookies and held several holiday parties.
