Leonard Davis, our English teacher and advisor to the Oracle Staff. Mr. Davis is close to every Senior because of his untiring work with us on our various Senior projects. His efforts on our behalf have helped us experience the thrill we have always anticipated from the phrase We are Seniors. We are happy to have this opportunity 'to give formal recognition to a person who has worked ener- getically behind the scenes. This year's team won over Indianapolis Tech, Howe, and Shortridge, Muncie Central, and Richmond. ln the Conference, out of the first five runners to finish, all were from Burris, and the other two Burris runners took eighth and ninth places. ln the Sectional, Burris was third, and at the State Burris finished fourth. The prospects for next year's Cross Country look very good, although four Seniors will be lost. BASEBALL This is the first year Burris has had a baseball team. They participated in the newly inaugurated Delaware County High School summer baseball pro- gram. Rex Rudicel coached the Owls this summer and had a very successful sea- son, winning fifteen and losing four. Next year the Owls should have another successful season, although they will lose several Seniors. :P wx? The Eighth and Ninth Grade teams, coached by Mr. Mannis and Mr. Serdula respectively, have developed skill and experience which will be valuable to future Owl Varsities. The Owlets had both a good team and an excellent season this year. Clayton Henry coached these boys to victory every game except one. You may be sure they will do their utmost to maintain such a record. The Golden Owls from Burris came through the season with fifteen wins and five losses. They overcame their first two opponents in the Sectional, but were defeated in their third game. The team will lose some hard working Seniors, but Coach Rex Rudicel has high hopes for next year's team.
