Page Twenty-nine Janet Paul Class History On an early crisp fall morning in 195 S a shy, bewildered Freshman class entered into the halls of Burrillville High. Upon being introduced to our advisor Mr. Neri, we elected the following officers to guide us through our first year: President, john Shepardg Vice-President, Gerry Rhodes, Secretary, Linda Kozlikg and Treasurer, Dennis Potter. The first social event, a Get-Acquainted Dance, was held by the Seniors in our honor. Harry Dutch and Shirley Racine were elected King and Queen. Although still lowly underclassmen, a more knowing and brave group of Sophomores entered dear B.H.S. again. Under the careful direction of Mr. Neri, John Shepard was elected President, Orrin Laferte, Vice-President, Robert Ducharme, Treasurer, and Sheila Chisholm, Secretary at the first class meeting of the year. In athletics, Robert Lapierre, Gerald Robillard, Howard Laporte, John Shepard, and Robert Ford became members of the National Athletic Society. Hurrah, upperclassmen at last! As leaders of our Junior class we selected John Shepard for President, Robert Ford, Vice-President, Priscilla Aldrich, Secretary, and Robert Ducharme, Treasurer. At Girls' State, Burrillville High was represented by Pat Holubesko, Shirley Racine and Jacqueline Brousseau. Geraldine Freitas attended Model Legislature, and Gordon Rouleau happily received the coveted All State guard position in football. Members of the National Athletic Society wereg John Shepard, Robert Ducharme, Robert Ford, Orrin Laferte, Howard Laporte, Robert Lapierre, Gerald Robillard, and Robert Lafreniere. On a beautiful warm june evening we held a Farewell Dance for the departing Seniors with Sheila Chisholm acting as chairman. Robert Ford was chosen Class Marshal by the class of 1958. September, 1958-at last we had reached our long awaited goal, and we would now begin our last year as mighty Seniors. With the resignation of Mr. Neri, Mr. Albert Lavallee consented to be our class advisor. John Shepard was elected President for the fourth consecutive time. Robert Ford was elected Vice-President, Sheila Chisholm, Secretary, and Robert Ducharme, Treasurer. The Freshman- Get-Acquainted Dance put on by the Seniors in October started off our Senior year with a bang. Many activities were to followg a card party Page Thirty Class History and fashion show on October 29, a Victory Dance at the Lodge in Pascoag to celebrate our winning the Class C championship in football, and a nice skating party attended by teeth-chattering Seniors in Decem- ber. Our prom Winter Wonderland broke all precedents by being the first one in Burrillville High's history to be held out of school. Barbara Crocker acted as chairman and was also chosen to reign as Queen. In April we presented our Senior Play, a hilarious comedy titled Onions in the Stew. Under the able and appreciated direction of Miss Morin, the play turned out to be a tremendous success. Following the play we held our Spring Prom, a Class Banquet, a Farewell Dance given to us by the Juniors, and an unforgetable Class Night with all Seniors enthusiastically participating. In June, after four long years of prepara- tion for the future, we proudly received our diplomas and entered into the world. As Seniors, many honors and awards were received. Geraldine Freitas won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award, and Barbara Crocker, the Elks Club Award for outstanding leadership. Jacqueline Brousseau had the honor of being chosen best citizen of the Class of 195 9 by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Model Congress was attended by legislators Pat Holubesko, Priscilla Williams, Geraldine Freitas, and Jacqueline Brousseau, and Model Legislature by Sheila Chisholm and Barbara Crocker. Sandra Wilbur, Barbara Zifchock were selected to represent Denmark at the NATO conference. - various colleges wanted Howie the work horse Laporte, All American football player and most valuable player in the New England Hockey Tournament to attend their colleges. Today is Columbus Day. Hurray! Our first days vacation. We held a card party followed by a fashion show tonight. It was a huge success thanks to our class advisor, Mr. Lavallee. Annual Teacher's Institute has rolled around again. We're off to pose and smile before the cameras at Loring's Studios. While we observe Veteran's Day with the rest of the country, we are also observing a days vacation. Thanksgiving is near and we are looking forward to our annual football game against Woonsocket. Hope we Win! Tonight we are celebrating our victory over Woonsocket for the Football Championship with a Victory Dance. Great fun! A lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun has gone into making wonderful memories of our years here at Burrillville. Today we came to school for the last time, not as Seniors, but as alumni.
