As we, the class of nineteen hundred forty-nine of Burrillville High, sadly bid adieu to our many friends at this wonderful school, we realize that as we leave, so does Mr. joseph C. Sweeney, our beloved Superinten- dent of Schools. Having completed thirtyQnine years of loyal service, he in now retiring. As he carried out his duties quietly and unassumingly, his friendly presence in our school was always deeply felt by each and every one of us. No salary could fully repay him for his invaluable services to the Town of Burrillville. His efforts have resulted in our town,s having one of the best school systems in the state. Although he has frequently had to perform many duties not specihcally relegated to his position he has never been heard to complain. A devoted fan of our school's athletic teams, he has been richly rewarded, by seeing the prestige of Burrillville High School in the Rhode Island schoolboy sport world so magniiicently elevated. We hope that his going into retirement will not end his interest in our school system for his mellowed sagacity could most probably be of invaluable assistance to the new administration. To you, Mr. Sweeney, we wish many pleasant memories of your association with our school system. Each individual member of this grad- uating class, the underclasses, and the 'faculty wishes to express his sincere appreciation for all you have done. NVe are sure that you will be a guiding light of inspiration to us in our future years. 6 Mu. josEPH C. SWEENEY SuPam1N'i'tNonNT OF SCHOOLQ
