Amy Zingarelli Greg Ziccarelli Tracy Zadai Pee-Wee Herman cycles to victory in a dream sequence from ‘'Pee-Wee Herman‘s Big Adventure,’ the film that skyrocketed him to fame. It Pays to Play the Nerd Stuffed into a tight grey suit with a miniature red bowtie, his face smeared with rouge and his feet clogged in platform shoes, Pee-Wee Herman, with his gawy laugh and hit movie, was the comic for ‘85. His character, created and portrayed by Paul Reubens, was a frequent staple of such shows as “Late Night with David Letterman’’ and ‘Meatballs !!, or in the company of crony Cyndi Lauper, with his fame skyrocketing with his summertime release. His quirky brand of humor, which blends child-like gadgets and toys with snippets of zany dialogue, was highlighted in “Pee Wee's Big Adventure.” a movie, that told the story of a boy and his bike. Glimpses of Herman's storybook world were revealed: a gingerbread house filled with Children’s Palace merchandise, inhabited by trying—but-can‘t-get-him Dotie, the freckle—faced bike shop manager, and the cartoonlike Gerheld, the sinister do—badder who steals Herman’s prized possession—his European de- luxe one seater bicycle. On a cross-country trek to retrieve his property, Herman falls into the company of a motorcycle gang, whom he dazzles with his table-top rendition of ‘“Tequila,‘’ befriends a waitress with a pyschotic Poyfriend, hitchhikes with a mass murderer, is duped by a palm reader, discovers the Alamo has no basement, contracts amnesia, and manages to be awarded a movie contract to retell his tale.
