GIRLS SENIORS. J. Keibler, S. Song, M. Swiergol. Splashing through the water—here they are—the girls’ swim team. Under the direction of Coach Holly Williams, this dedicated group rolled to an impressive 6-2 season. The team’s greatest victory was an upset over Kiski. Hard work, team depth and school spirit paid off throughout the season. Practices were always lively with coach Wil- liams bellowing instructions and the complaints of many a swimmer. Team Captain Suzette Song was quoted as saying, ’| think it helped when they changed the water in the pool. It’s all related to chemis- try when the water reacts with the oils on the skin ... ‘’ Despite this comment, she represented the team at WPIAL’s and set her mark in the 50 freestyle. Burrell’s tradition of wrestling excellence was upheld in the past season, as junior Mark Scripps and Senior Shawn DesLauriers were ranked among the top five in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette poll. Wrestlers continued their struggles to stay within their weight categories, working out with Nautilus machines, starving, and exercising with multiple layers of clothing. Most matches received strong support, with the exception of a home meet against Valley, which was deliberately closed to every- one but the wrestlers to avoid rival fighting that had erupted in past seasons. Captain Shawn DesLauriers was able to bolster team spirit aiding Coach Tursky in keeping a heightened attitude that often translated into wins. Senior M. Sansosti looking for a takedown over T.
