THE BURTONIAN 31 SOCIAL EVENTS The social events of Burr and Burton this year were many and varied. The season opened with Mountain Day. Leaving the Seminary, in automobiles, at eightfforty-ive A. M., we started for Wyman's Cave, our destination. Riding as far as we could, then walking some distance, we arrived at the cave. With flashlights we found our way through a long narrow opening into the cave. After exploring it for some time, we came out-all glad to see the sun again. We ate our lunches in a large field just below the cave. Lunch over, we played baseball and other games until time for returning to our respective homes Thus ended a most pleasant day The first dance of the season was the Freshman Frolic given to the Freshmen by the Senior Class This was a most informal dance given for the sake of introducing the Freshmen to the gay times ahead of them at Burr and Burton The hall was simply decorated and light refreshments were served With the aid of a good orchestra and the co operation of the Seniors everyone enjoyed the evening The Masquerade Ball given by the junior Class was the social event next in line The hall was most attractively decorated with autumn leaves and with trimmings of orange and black The grand march came during intermission Prizes were awarded to those wearing the best costumes October refreshments of cider and doughnuts were served Very good music was supplied by an orchestra from a nearby town The party was a great success financially as well as socially The Basketball Banquet winding up a most successful season of that sport was held in the Community Club rooms About thirty six people gathered for a sumptuous feast and a gay time Qnone being disappointed, Much amusement and entertainment was afforded by Mr Robert the toastmaster A delightful turkey dinner followed by dancing was greatly enjoyed by everyone The Sophomore Hop given by the Sophomore Class was one of the more pleasing events of the school year Perhaps one of the most amusing features of the year was given at this time a baby parade which caused much hxlarity All sorts and descriptions of babies participated not to mention an Austin Light refreshments were served and the music was supplied by Hurleys Qrchestra On May 26 the unior Prom ushered in the formal events of the year It was well enjoyed and forecast the delightful evening of une 12 at which time the umors and Alumni presented the Senior Ball in honor of the graduating class During the year the usual contests in basketball baseball and tennis took place the Burr and Burton teams proving their worth in all of them During the winter a new plan of having short informal dances after the basketball games was inaugurated The dances were so well attended that they will undoubtedly be continued during the ensuing year The Senior Play 'The Admwable Crichton by Sir James Barrie directed by Miss Paradis was presented on May 17 Much credit is due to Miss Paradis and the cast for putting on such an excellent performance The cast was as follows Lord Brocklehurst Huntington Gilbert Hon Ernest Wooley Joseph Fowler Rev john Treherne Claude Campbell Mr Crichton Carlos Warner A Naval Ofhcer Blanchard Stone 4 1 D, ' , , - , .
