Text from Pages 1 - 216 of the 1977 volume:

11 EPIC ”77” is dedicated to Mr. Sewell Gratitude is the memory of the heart . . . To remember the days we have just finished living we have these: The expressions on the faces around us, And the expressions within our minds . . . The faces are here . . . Our thoughts are our own. Let them always be our own 3ln (JUrmorg of . . . leffreg (gorrfon j ack 1959-1975 THE GOLDEN EAGLE The snow that had turned the ground to white Had fallen quite heavily through the night It was an early morning in December. God had turned a youth’s soul free, A boy who was a friend to you and me, In the spring of his life, remembered. He was living young, he was living free But God just needed him more than we In our prayers he’ll be remembered. He saw a human being in strife, He tried to save this other man’s life. To God, his life, he surrendered. As we think of him, we’ll look to the sky Because The Golden Eagle now will fly . . . beyond — — Valarie Nobile 6 CO H O CO Lori Abare Janice Abramson Kevin Ahern David Albright Stuart Allen Julie Anderson Edward Amirault Eric Andersen 8 Michael Armer Mark Aseltine Wendy Ashdown Deborah Askew Merrilee Aussicker John Barge Kathy Barnell 9 Julia Bethune Karen Bell Melody Bellinger Paul Betz Susan Binney Patricia Browne Torkild Brunso Ellen Bums Karen Bosher Bernadette Bourgeois George Brenner Kathrvn Brown Susan Brown Carla Burroughs Debra Butler Louis Caccavale Raymond Caggianelli Ralph Carach Valerie Carlson Gail Carmichael Charles Carter Philip Cassella Jack Sandra Center 14 Kristopher Chew Peter Chien Gale Christian Janice Christie Elizabeth Clark Anne Colyer Mark Concilia Lorraine Connolly M. Mr. Oddy, Mr. Hoffman YEARBOOK MESSAGE Your yearbook is a permanent reminder of a year in school, of friends, teachers, courses, events and activities. To seniors its arrival means that graduation, that symbol of childhood’s end, and the end of public schooling, is near. Public schools have in general become so much a portion of American life that their existence and function is taken for granted by most people and almost all students. School life can be routine. Learning is gradual. It does not usually occur with dramatic bursts of insight. The learner is only aware of change and growth within himself when he can look back over a span of time. During the years of your school experience you have learned a number of important skills, acquired a substantial amount of information on a wide range of subjects, and developed some new interests. Hopefully you have gained insight into the history of our country, the nature of our society, and the importance of its role in world affairs. While doing this you have gained physical stature, physiological maturity, a greater knowledge of yourself, an understanding of others and hopefully a confidence that you can move successfully into the world of adulthood. You represent a case where the whole is more than the sum of its parts. You are not a memory bank of random bits of data, but a vital, functioning, human individual ready and able to use information, create your own thoughts, and take a place in society. There will be a world for you and an opportunity for you to be a part of it, as great or small, as your talents and energies determine. And when you look back, I think you’ll agree that the public schools, while by no means the only important part of your youth, did play a vital role in your development and that you could not have been the same person without them. Best wishes to all of you! ss«ss:s! CO 119 Business T. Mirando, C. King (Editor-in-Chief), C. Hock. W. Ashdown. J. Barge. P. Lopus, J. Clarke. R. Fisher. Missing: E. Collins (Editor-in-Chief), K. It will not be easy to say good-bye and if you want to live in a tree please visit me and I will receive you with all my love. I hope that everybody will remember me with love even though we live far apart wherever you are. Students Maribel Martinez—Venezuela I will always remember the teachers and pupils of B H-BL as a warm example of friendship shown to someone from another country. My stay in the United States was made enjoyable by my family, all my new friends, and the people who invited me into their homes. I would like to take this chance to thank all of you. I've really enjoyed myself here, and Til try to come back sometime. BH-BL Students An AFS experience is probably the greatest thing that could ever happen to a person. In Malaysia I was “adopted by a wonderful family and quickly became one of them. The fear I felt in the beginning gradually melted away and I began to learn about the people, the language and the culture. I found that the more I learned, the more I respected. The goal of AFS is to bring about world peace and understanding. One of AFS Malaysia’s mottos is “Walk together-talk together. We all talk about peace but AFS is really doing something about it. This past summer 1 spent seven weeks living in Italy. During the course of my travels, the o.’e thing that struck me was that—no ma ter how different their cultures—peo| le are all the same. The people I met m. y have spoken an entirely different langu e, but they were really no different from myself. That’s important for us to remember if we are all going to live together on earth. 138 Cross Country Track First Row: P. Watson. E. Meyer. B. Koch. R. Casper. M. Armstrong. Second Row: K. Lozier. D. Electricity... it’s our most versatile form of energy. It's made, not mined. New capacity isn't discovered, it's built. And built to use almost any fuel—coal, uranium, water, gas, oil.. even rubbish. Designing and building power-makers to meet the country's electrical demands are where the men and women of Schenectady General Electric excel—we have built more than half of America's total electric generating capacity. We also build motors and other products to put this power to work .. . driving the machinery and production lines of American industry. And, in our seven labs and research centers, we are seeking new ways to make and use electricity even more efficiently and effectively. At Schenectady General Electric —more than 27,000 people are dedicated to making it possible for this country to have all the electricity it needs. 995.57 GENERAL ELECTRIC Cleaners 374-8434 Tailors Furs Uniforms Congratulations!
