ROM FA HER T M ' D F ur of my best years were spent ID watch1ng the freshman lass of 3 a Burnt H1lls Ballston Lake High School ecome the senior class f They were a gay young group, those fresh men Their freshmen year was obscure and for the records sake Jean Dandar eau was their President, and such teach ers M 1 e r e1ss and rs Arnold may go down 1n history as faculty advisors As freshmen, they were a com plete success always g1Vlng some teach er a dreadful headache T e1r second year brought them o the beg1nn1ng of their a1m a Wash1ngton tr1 s ar, y so ne was IS year that Miss Z1mpel took over The treasury Wh1Ch was guarded by D1ck Greene, who was guarded by secretary, Eleanor Chadwick began to mount up Th1s was the year that brought the flfSt new 1dea newspaper drives Sophmores c eaned out 3ttlCS c ars, garages, and any place where old newspapers could be found This proved to be a good 1dea, both financially and 1ntellectually they were collecting they would catch up on two or three years reading of the also ut I won t mention those The corridors of the school would sometimes look l1ke salvage houses Somewhere among the papers, B111 Betts and Everett Kerwood could always be found try1ng to dig out jean Dandareau and Dot Sm1th o were ngled up 1n a ball o Stfl a p1le of magaz1n e1r y1n1or year was mo exc 1ng one 1C8fS for th1s year were Pres1dent D1ck Greene Vice Pres1dent Reba Coulombe Secretary Isabella Buch anan Treasurer, Ellen Kovarov1c The n1ors rted a magaz1 drive Not a bad 1 ea Then came ano er 1d b a ket c u So many t ings a ened during th1 ye penny par y more newspa er drives junior SBHIOY Halloween Dance seed dr1ve, and f1nally candy sales Tue biggest and most memorable I suppose was the cold w1ndy day that Jean Dandar eau and Roberta jette plowed the1r way down to the Ballston Lake Post Off1C9 to I4 get a very valuable package The pack e contained junior r1n Some f which can now be found in c1rculat1on outs1de of the sen1or class Next came t e highlight of the year the Junior prom Many days and weeks were spent in plann1ng the decorations and 1n May the prom was held The gymnas1um was ecorated w1th a May Pole and past streamers n two da after the prom, that the clean ups found or1s Heckler und up in one o t streamers t, a good t1me was had all Hav1ng heard many tales of Wash gton, hey e t for their summer tions W1 h th senior year September 3 1941 they entere e1r senior ye l La Rue elected Pres1dent and Bob Howard V1ce President Secretary Eleanor Chadwick Treasurer, jean Dandareau Immediately plans were made for a newspaper dr1ve everyone pitched 1n and the dr1ve was a success Oh' No the magazine drive was not forgotten Under the1r able Capta1n, Bob Howard th1s 1Ve was also ma successful Mon s ro ed b can time crept closer October, November, and then December' Then suddenly all of the SCHIOF s dreams were shattered ut e 1 n g1ve They had a new and bigger a1m They worked doubly hard Christmas cards were sold They turned er the1r candy profits to th Cross, and the benef1ts of the s n 10f play were donated to the local O D n t they rece1ve any reward?
