COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES '55 'H' ,, it me 'Y' 'X 25 asain It was a beautlful mornlng ln every way for the Gradu atmg Class of The Mary A Burnham School as they formed a processxon from Burnham House up Elm Street toward the Methodlst Church for the Com mencement EXCFCISCS they wore thexr caps and gowns proudly and each carrled one long stemmed red rose The CXCFCISCS began wlth an lI1VOC3tlOI1 offered by the Reverend Lawrence S Staples followed by the SII1glI1g of the hymn Come Thou Almlghty Kmg by the graduates students and guests Mrs Emerson graclously lntroduced Dr Claude Moore F uess the former Headmaster of PhllllpS Acad emy 1n Andover who gave the stlrrlng commencement address Hls talk was so lnterestlng we were all ln Splfed to believe as he does that the world of today IS the land of opportunlty for women and to be very optxmlstlc about the future Followlng the address Mrs Peters presented prmes for outstandmg achlevement The academlc prxze awarded to the member of the senior class who had malntamed the hlghest average wg 3 it for the last two years was awarded to Jane Sugden The Burnham B awarded to the senlor who ln the op1n1on of the faculty best represents Burnham School tradltlons was glven to Ursula Kendrtarvlch Glrls elected to the Nat1onal Honor Soclety were Bonnle Ellenbogen Lvnn Head Ga1lKalbach Clarlta Kushelevltch Rlta Ruebel Beverly Stackpole Jane Sugden and Ann Welch After a Benedlctlon offered by Reverend Staples the graduatlng class filed out of the Church and returned to Graduatlon Lawn at Burnham House for the outdoor awardlng of dlplomas and were seated ln a wlde cres cent on the lawn as thelr parents and guests found seats on Burnham porch The dlplomas were presented wlth a kmd word for each glrl by Mrs Emerson ass1sted by Mrs Peters The CXCTCISCS were followed by a dellclous buHet luncheon on the lawn enjoyed by all and so ended the 79th Commencement of our wonderful lNIary A Burn ham School 1 7 M ni l,...,,,,, . as ' ,away 1' 1 , My 9 W lk?
