Everyone was excited and busy making new friends. Twelve years seemed like along, long time then, now it is almost over. lt is impossible to tell you everything of our twelve years in school, but we shall attempt to give you some idea of how they were spent. On September 6, t947, we walked through the doors of Burnham High School and entered the freshman Nclass. After a few months we fell into the ways of the high school. We el- ected Kenneth Furner as president and Tony Battisra as vice president. We also attended class night and carried the tra- ditionalbanners in our class colors. Soon after we received our report cards and learned that we were all to he sophomores. On September 4. 1948, we were transferred down stairs to the sophomore class. taught by Mrs. Leeper. We attended to the matterof three more class officers. We elected as treasurer, Dorine Nale: secretary, Helen Habbershong and historian, Geraldine Bennerg with Mr. J. R. Haney as class advisor. Our big event of this year was our St. Patrick's Day Dance. We all worked hard to make this dance a success and we were greatly rewarded for our work. Ou.r class agreed that the dues would be 83.15 per year. In October of this term we received our rings which we were very proud to wear. We held several dances and for our first project we sold jewelry. This was very successful. Among other things, we were very busy reading plays, The play we chose was Good Glory. It was a hugh success. The actors should receive great praise for their ability. The char- acters were as follows: Glory Witherspoon, Jo Ann Hertzlerg Samuel Witherspoon, James Clouser: Drina Hatfield, Doris Clouserp Roma Trevelyan, loan Hamptons Todhunter Trevel- yang Kenneth Furner: Caleb Coggles, Ronald Harpsterp Maria Coggles, Dorothy Betlyonp Davis Jordon, Lloyd Havice: Kit Witherspoon, Dolly McCartleg Agnes Witherspoon, Ann Stainsg George Darnell, Ronald Elder. After our play, we went to work on plans for our junior prom. The Senior class of t95o and the faculty were our guests. This affair was held at Green Gables Hotel and a turkey dinner was served to all. A few short speeches were given by the president of both junior and senior classes. Kenneth Furner and William Snyderg also by Mr. Louie llioffg Mr. K. K. Woomerg Mr. I. R. Haney and Mr. E. H. Koch. After the dinner, there was dancing to the music of Harold Wilt's orchestra from 9:00 till 12:00. All the girls looked lovely in their new evening dresses. The boys looked their best in their white shim and ries. This was the la,t activity in our junior year. Now tostart the most important year of all, our senior year. We started to work toward our annual trip to New York. We had a bake sale and raised quite a bit of money. Football came and we placed several members on the team. Our classmates were quite proud of our captain, Turk Horner. We had charge of the concession stands and several of our members worked hard to help the class. The class sponsored many big holiday dances. Then the class picked the senior play, Call Me Darling. The parts were very well handled by able actors. The char- acters were as follows: Billy Haskins, Robert Kline: Neeley, Ronald Harpsterg Mom Haskins, Dorine Naleg Mary Iane, Geraldine Benner: Smitty, Dorothy Betlyong Pop Haskins, Lloyd Haviceg Virginia Gregg. Jean Moore: AuntAnnie. lean Deans Pamela Payne. Joan Hampton: Congressman Chalmers, James Clouserg Mrs. J. Francis Hamilton, Ann Stains: Lorelie Hamilton, Dolly McCartle. Yes, this is it, our class history. We are almost through our school years, ready to go out into this world of opportun- ities. Like every class, good times and bad have been with us. As we read this a few years from now, we will laugh when we remember good times and frown when we remember our squabbles. We wish to thank Mr. I. R Haney for the times he should have walked out of our class when we wouldn't agree on some- thi.ng, for the times he tried to explain problems to us and we wouldn'r listen, and for the times we picked our class rings and pennants and just couldn't come to a decision. Goodbye. B.H.S. We leave you regretfully. Sorry we can not stay longer. We will always remember these years as being full of activities in education and sports.
