George T. Wright Superintendent This country has now endured for over 200 years. Government has changed considerably over those 200 plus years. So has public schools education. Today, every politician or politician-to-be spouts his or her own brand of education reform. We have — today — many overnight education specialists. However, at least most people have come to recognize the importance of education and have started to demand that government put as much energy and money into educating our future citizens as it has been putting into excessive welfare and political “pork-barrel” programs. After 200 years of refinement there are still many contradictions in this society of ours. It’s not unusual — for example — for the guilty to walk away from a crime penalty free — often based on some sort of enlightened ultra-liberal quirk in the law. But, somehow, even inequities seem to work themselves out given enough time. All we really need to meet our educational and citizen goals for the year 2000 — only 12 years from now — are more competent citizens, more knowledgeable citizens, more educated citizens and a good old fashion work ethic. Given these things — all the dreams of educational improvement will fall into place. George T. Wright Bonnie Fawcett, Secretary; Mary Williams, Bookkeeper; Sheryl Read, Bookkeeper. Dane Kerns Vice-Principal To the Right: Pete Wisener, Member; Pat Baker, Vice-President; Barney Baker, President; George T Wright. Superintendent; Gene Eddings, Busi- ness and Finance; Dr. Mike Matthews, Secretary; Beth Didway. Member; Camm Lary, Jr.. Member; Esther Warden, Member. Lonnie Seipp Principal Congratulations to the annual staff and Mrs. Smith for their dedication and hard work in the preparation of this year’s annual. I am very proud of the attitude of the students and faculty at BHS. I hope everyone will benefit from their time spent here in preparation for the future. Thanks to all for making this such a great place to work. Lonnie Seipp My wife and I are pleased that we made the decision to move to Burnet. The people in the town and the school system make it a great place to work. I would like to commend the faculty and students of Burnet High School for their hard work and accomplishments this year. I would also like to wish everyone luck and happiness in the future. Dane Kerns 17
