Pete Wisener, Pat Baker, Barney Baker, George T Wright, Jolene Mock, Camm Lary Jr. George T Wright Gene Eddings Lonnie Seipp Dane Kerns Superintendent Business Manager Principal Vice-Principal A wise man once stated there are always some who find it difficult to contribute constructively to anything — and — their only contribution to society is their passing. That would be a sad state of affairs! That would be a poor legacy to leave behind. Each of us should take a good look at our lives. Do we build up — or do we tear down? Do we support or do we undercut? Do we create or do we destroy? Do we help or do we hinder? Do we pave the way for improvement or do we just improve the paving of our own way? Over a period of time we all become known for our deeds — not our words. Are you one of good meaningful deeds — or — are you taking the path most traveled by? We sincerely hope that your experiences in B.C.I.S.D. will help you to make the wise and correct decisions — even if it means choosing the path less traveled by. George T. Wright Superintendent Congratulations to the members of the Annual Staff and sponsor, Mrs. Smith, for a job well done. It takes many hours of hard work in the preparation of the yearbook. Hopefully this edition will serve to remind students of their time spent at BHS for years to come and to provide many happy memories of those times. It has been an exceptional year at BHS. Our students have been successful in academics and athletics as the pages of this book will show. Thanks to all who contributed to making this year a success. Sincerely, Lonnie Seipp Principal I would like to thank the students and faculty of Burnet High School for making my first year here an interesting and en joyable one. The hard work and dedication of my staff, their players, and our trainer managers were obvious. The cooperation of the administration, faculty and student body were endless. The public and media gave us great support, thus making the season a special one for all. My first winning season as a head coach will always re- main with me. I want to congratulate the seniors of ’86 for a job well done and remind the underclassmen that our work has just begun! I believe in my heart that the Burnet Bulldogs are made of the “Right Stuff” and in time will continue to reap their just rewards! Coach Q. The footprints left by the girls who graduate this year will not be easily filled Their enthusiasm, their leadership, and their team spirit have been of the highest caliber Though we will sorely miss them, their example will continue to lead us Good luck to you. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves. We were determined to go farther than last years’ graduates. But success came hard, and time and time again we fell short of our goals. We had so many ups and downs, we all felt like we were riding a roller coaster. Finally at the end of regular district play, our backs were to the wall. Three teams left to fill one play off spot and we were the underdog. This is where we showed our true colors. With senior and junior leadership, Marble Falls and Brady went down and we earned the right to be the runner district representative. Next, we met Waco-Robinson in Bi-District play. Although we were behind on the score board, at the end of the game, we walked off the court knowing we had given it our all, and we were proud. I’d like to say thanks to the seniors. They kept their dedication, and were good examples of how to fight and overcome disappointment and defeat. As for the next years’ crew, they have large shoes to fill. But I have every confidence in the world that they will do just that. The seniors of ’86 started the tradition and the seniors of ’87 kept it going. Now it is up to the seniors of ’88 to do their best to develop as leaders and players. Coach Collins J.V. These students are enrolled in a class for one hour a day to learn how to get, keep and advance on the job. The students then work part of the school day in the community learning how to handle the demands of a job. For many of these students, this plan for graduation has been a more practical approach than a purely academic curriculum. In the fall, these dedicated students staged a highly successful production of The Girl In The Mirror, a play that dealt with issues surrounding suicide. The cast was led by Michelle Davis, turning in an outstanding performance as the girl, and Susan Highsmith, a four-year drama student and graduating senior, who played the speaker. This am- bitious group then set their sights on their UIL One Act Play contest entry: A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. The group really pulled together to tackle this challenging play and with extraordinary energy and commit- ment, and proceeded to win district, area, and turn in an ex- cellent performance at Regional Competition in Odessa. At the District level, Chris Black was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast; Stephen Highsmith and Mike Edwards were named to the All-Star Cast, and John Kay was named Best Actor. In Area Competition, Travis Cravey and John Kay received Honorable Mention awards; Stacia Edwards and Chris Black received All-Star Cast. Finally at Regional Competition, Jason Haynes was awarded Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Stacia Edwards was awarded All-Star Cast. Congratulations are in order for the whole group, who surmounted sometimes extraordinary obstacles to achieve participation at the Regional level, which put Burnet, out of 350 3A entries, in the top 24 in the State of Texas. Next year, BETC wants a STATE TITLE! Special thanks, as always, to Julie Paugh, the BETC Technical Direc- tor, who put in many hours on crew. Britt Block Artistic Director BETC 109 The year 86-87 was an enjoyable one for cheerleading. We experienced our first year with male cheerleaders. We saw complicated pyramids and more partner stunts. HIGHLIGHTS Highl.indkMK.' o( Ihf Yeat. Elizabeth L« w«% DIR€CTOR’S M£SSt G€ This has been a year of tremendous growth and accomplishment for the Highlandettes. At the beginning of the year, the girls learned exactly what it means to be a Highlandette. They worked hard to establish for themselves a team in which dedication, self-sacrifice and esprit d’ corp were not only rewarded, but expected. And, in every way, they have succeeded. Through teamwork and self sacrifice, they earned two 1st division ratings at competition this year, for the first time in Highlandette history. This, for all of us, was a major source of pride. Perhaps our greatest accomplishment this year has been working in cooperation with our Booster Club to plan a trip to New York. This, too, is a first for us. Seeing the sights and performing in one of the greatest cultural centers of the world is truly a fine achievement for a drill team from a small town in Texas. And I would especially like to thank the people that have really made the New York trip possible — the Highlandettes Booster Club. They eagerly ac- cepted the idea and then willingly took on months of bake sales, garage sales and auctions (and even volunteered to chaperon!) Without their undying sup port and hard work, the trip would not be possible. So, 1987 has really been a year of “firsts,” two 1st division ratings and our first trip and performance out of state. As a team, we’ve come a long way to reach these goals, and as individuals, each Highlandette has developed the strength and the love to endure the hardships every year presents in order to shine at the end.
