This year the Student Council initiated a Campus Beautification Project to provide a more attractive and pleasant atmosphere for the school and to foster a sense of pride throughout the student body. The creation of an “outdoor commons” area between the gym and main building is the first goal of the pro- ject, and the installation of tables and benches began in the spring. A live oak was also planted in the open area in front of the main entrance. The Student Council hopes that this beginning will draw various campus clubs and many in- dividuals into a long-range effort to maintain and enhance everyone’s idea of the campus as a place to learn and a place to enjoy the company of others. The Leo and Drafting Clubs have already given their encouragement and sup- port to the plan, and Mr. Vandeventer, through his work with the Council and the School Board, made it possible for us to get off the ground financially.

To be accepted into the National Honor Society, a grade point average of 90 or above must be achieved and maintained. This year the N.H.S. helped with the District One Act Play Contest held in Burnet by working as guides for the out-of-town guests and running the refreshment stand. They also helped at the Band Concert Contest by fulfilling the duties of guides and aides while the band was performing. The National Honor Society had several bake sales to raise money for a trip to Austin to see the Ice Capades. You mean you’re not going to U.T., Scott?!?
